RS*R Scion tC: turbocharged with rear wheel drive!

RSR Scion tC

Ken Gushi’s car for the Formula Drift championship in the US is an interesting one. The Scion tC is based on a transverse engine front wheel drive platform, but all-wheel drive derivatives are also available.

For drifting, rear wheel drive is necessary of course. The availability of all-wheel drive on the platform makes it relatively easier for a rear wheel drive adaptation. The transverse engine layout has been dumped for a 3S-GE Beams engine mounted longtitudinally. The 3S-GE is turbocharged with a HKS GT3037 turbine, and managed with a Blitz Dual SBC boost controller and an AEM engine management system.

More photos of the car after the jump.

Wonder why no bonnet vents were made for the intercooler, doesn’t look like it will do much cooling this way, or just front mount it since it’s already at that area. Very neat interior

    can u ‘drift’ any car?

surely u can. but can u really make a car drift and look as good as the jap marques?

i dont think american get hold any of it.

infact, legends had proved before, that yankies were and still good at giving any car top performance for a straight line race.

but they fluffed and still dont know how to make a car go round any corner as good as their europeans+japanese counterparts.

i saw that Gittin Jr in a Mustang vs the japaneses and our very own Djan, and although Gittlin is one of the top drifter in the world, but i dont think i fancy his technique or any of his moves.

going back to the topic, yes, u can drip all the scions, just like u put a race suit into a cow

still it wont win u any running race.

yes.. its a handbrake, all rally cars have that as well.. you’re basically trying to get the controls nearer to the drivers hands, so he doesnt need to reach too far down to do anything.

For all of you who are wondering. NO. Scions are only available in the U.S. and Canada. However they will be soon available in Japan as well. For right now there are no future plans to expand out from there. As for the RS*R that you see, it has been modified into a RWD drift car. They are only available in a FWD (Unless you have about $20,000 USD). However there are plans to manufacture a new RWD, TC in 2011. It is a co-op between Toyota and Suburu.
