Mercedes-Benz to replace CLK with E-Class Coupe

Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class

Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Ernst Lieb says the German luxury automaker will axe the CLK in its current form (based on the C-Class chassis) and replace it with a 2-door coupe (wow, a new coupe announcement that’s not a 4-door one) based on the E-Class chassis.

Lieb said this was to move the smallest Mercedes-Benz coupe up a segment in order for it to be more competitive against cars such as the hot-selling Audi A5. It would also mean the new E Coupe will be more expensive than the CLK it replaces.

i think its emulating the 300CE back in the W124 days. also that it does not wish to compete with the m3 coupe

Yeah right. Try to up-sell in a market that is down for the next 18 months is a good move Ernst. Not.

Dude, putting an E on it (ELK?) would justify its already high price and add a few more too.

isn’t CLK using an E-class platform all this while ?

Paul Tan says: No, it is based on the C-Class, just that it has E-Class styling cues.

W124 E-class is not a direct competitor to 3-series. Thats why MB created 190E 2.3 16 Evo last time. And personally, i think it’s better to use the CE badge again.. but I doubt it.

But I still like the W124 CE.. and hope to get one, one day.
