Next generation Audi A3 to also feature sedan body

Audi LogoBMW’s formula of taking a boot onto the 1-Series and creating a coupe out of it sparked an idea in the Volkswagen AG stables. The American market while in a slump is still of significance to car manufacturers, and they love stuff with boots not hatches, so Audi is apparently going to launch the next generation Audi A3 with a boot, basically Audi’s equivalent to the Volkswagen Jetta. Autocar UK also reports that the new A3 will not be based on the Mk6 GTI platform (largely a rehashed Mk5), but a next generation platform. The A3 will also have the adaptive damping system also found on the A4.

if you tell if it’s Porsche, then it’s possible.. but definitely Audi won’t do that in near future…yet.

Noway that Audi can beat 2002 successor. 4wd RS3 coupe with 340hp? Still not any fun compare to 135 coupe. Fun is RWD!

    A3 with a boot and four doors = A4 B5. Wouldn’t it?
    Hang on, a 105bhp 1.2TFSI with options to go 210bhp 2.0TFSI?
I thought they were trying to sell to the Americans? Sounds more like making for the China market and then do the PR stuff and say its for the Americans. Now that makes perfect German marketing sense!

Well the A4 (even the old B5) had a longitudinal engine while the A3 is transverse. More like… a lower cost A4, slightly smaller in size maybe.

Then by A3 Quottro, wouldn’t that makes the A3 a longitudinal engine?

Audi is starting to be confusing, like those BMW’s numbering.
