VIDEO: Embrace life – always wear your seat belt!

We hanker on and on about wanting at least dual airbags to be standard in our cars but yet a lot of us (not everyone of course) sometimes forget to wear our seatbelts. I’ve observed many times where people usually drive around without their seatbelts and only put them on when they reach a main road or a highway.

I suppose the logic going through their heads subconsciously is that the slow speeds going through residential roads doesn’t require the use of a seatbelt in the case of an accident, but as proven in the recent MIROS crash test video even at a low speed of under 30km/h there can be some serious damage. So please, always buckle up when you are in a car, including those rear seat passengers!

Watch this really good seat belt advocacy video shown above by the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership to burn the message in your head!

Most children became orphans in Malaysia because their parents died in accidents.

what about the children who died because the parents didn't bother to strap them down or use proper child seats?

And then these idiots cause the entire system to be dumbed down to the lowest denominator since the excuse now is "no point giving better safety when people don't use them"….

So far only 2 budget cars have 6 airbags…the up and coming 2.0 Forte and the Peugeot 308. I suspect, when 2.0 Forte starts being locally assembled, we are going to loose some airbags. Naza has been known for that sort of malarky.

Actually, car manufacturers just need to make an extremely irritating seat belt alert sound so that if u do not buckle up, u're not gonna enjoy ur drive. I've never had such compliance to belting up until I got a Peugeot 308THP which has this feature. Heck, even my 2 1/2 year old who never sits still in the car no do … kids (and to some extent even adults) don't understand the value of safety because it's not something they can immediately see/hear/feel. Put up a noise associated with not belting up, they'll follow the instructions …. no doubt it's not for the right reasons but I believe if my son is nurtured with this habit, it would become 2nd nature when he grows up.

I wonder why our government never thought of making this compulsory … at least Proton should set the standard. Don't think it would cost too much to manufacture and install.

yes..and thats only if you are colliding with the other vehicle at 15km/h and the same with the other car. Manage both at meet head on at 30km/h each. Thats 60km/h collision which mean thats a 50:50 survival chance. Buckle up boy and girls.

I want to be driving an 8-airbag car. :-P

People who drive without wearing seat belts are complete idiots. And they're world class morons if they complain that all cars need features like airbags.

I think what some American cars had in the 90s was a cool idea. Automatic seat belts that tie you down once you close the door. You just have to buckle the lap belt, which not many bothered to – that was the downside.

I once saw a video also about seat belt too. 3 people in the car, had an accident and everyone passed out. It shows the spirit of two of the passengers flew away from the body(as if they died) and the 3rd one(driver), spirit struggle to get away from the body. Then he woke up. He was the only one with seat belt on.

    Lucy Pinder….nice~

Not only the 308 got that annoying sounds. The 407 too. Sheesh…I admit, I was one of those who only wears it when I feel like wearing it. As maturity and common sense kicked in, I started to wear it every time before I drive. It is simple really to make yourself wears your seat belt every time. But it is good to teach 'em young. Like Kenso said, it'll become their 2nd nature when they grow up.

some people failed to notice that airbags are only supplimentary hence the SRS (supplimentary restraining system) would suggest. No matter how many airbags you put in a car, if you don't buckle up and drive like a mad cow on the loose, it's practically useless.

  24. Jarum says:

Many people do not know that in some car makes the airbags of a particular side in the car will not activate if the seatbelt of that side is not fastened. The sensor is at times located in the seatbelt catch. This is to minimise the cost of reset of airbags in case there are people in the seat.

great vid, even better message. but Malaysian drivers will continue to be the assholes that they are, no matter what effort is put in by the G or any other party. we're just plain ignorant n couldnt' give a f**k… becoz its never the drivers fault :- it was the…

1- guy in front-it doesnt matter if i want to tail him/her an inch behind, the driver in front must not brake so suddenly

2- pedestrian- it doesnt matter wether theres a zebra crossing or not, i'm the one drivng, i dont need to give way to any one who is walking, pedestrians must give way to drivers, esp one who has a big flashy german saloon. rules dont apply to me.

3- the m/cycle rider-they're not suppose to be on the road becoz they cant afford a proper set of wheels, they are below me, and besides, all m/cyclist young/old/men/women any race are mat/minah rempits…

4- the G fault, theyre suppose to build roads that are safe so that i could drive as fast as i want and as crazy as i want, i dont need to follow the speed limits becoz i have a masters/ Phd, I'm smarter than any and everyone and i have a bigger car than most people, so i dont need to respect them and they should make way for me instead.

    In Malaysia, the problems are not just with unfasten seat belts (not using seat belts). Other bigger problems are;

    1) Not using signal when maneuvering.

    2) Using the signal improperly (example; signal left turn but turn right instead).

    3) Last minute signal; only after manuever then give signal.

    4) Tailgating at high speed (bumper to bumper clearance).

    5) Chasing red lights. Green means drive slow, amber drive fast and red go faster!

    6) Road monopolizing; it could be anything! Varies from the destructive hand phones or the girlfriend beside controlling the driver's "manual stick", rendering him lost and subconscious while driving in climax!

    7) Queue cutting. This is one of Malaysia's finest driver trend.
    8) Wannabe Wiralution, Wajalution, Myvilution, Kancilution absurd neon-lighting that kills our already poor night peripheral vision. I hope the authority rips of these neon lights from their cars during operation on spot. Let them drive without lights.

    9) Aged old dinosaur vehicles. Or not properly maintained vehicles that kept on breaking down at the main roads causing terrible jams.

    10) And sometimes its not the break downs that slows us down. Hoping for big accidents, the other "concern" drivers slows down to see what's going on. Maybe get a number for 4D Toto. And also to call "tukang tarik kereta" for commission. The tow truck arrive faster than the ambulance.

And the story just goes on! Welcome to 1Malaysia drivers!

I just want to say that whoever not wearing seatbelts are idiots regardless of the speed.
I have seen many cases where the seatbelts save lives. When I was working at Alice Springs Hospital and this was when there were no speed limit in NT Australia.
Many tourists rent cars and not knowing the local roads drive like mad and skidded and rolled their cars over. I give you an example, 3 japanese tourists had an accident, two at the front not wearing seat belts, and the rear passesnger did. The driver was ejected and killed instantly, the unrestrained passenger had bad chest injuries and guess what, the restrained passenger did not have any scratch at all.
I supposed common sense is NOT as you guess it COMMON in some of the brain of these daredevils. I wish them the best of luck.
