Tan Chong to build new 4WD factory in KK, Sabah

Tan Chong Motor Holdings Berhad revealed in a filing with Bursa Malaysia on the 12th of November 2010 that it has successfully obtained approval for its Manufacturing License application for a new factory at the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park in Sabah under its wholly own subsidiary, TC Manufacturing Company (Sabah) Sdn Bhd.

The Manufacturing License allows vehicles with engine capacities of 1,800cc and above, with OTR prices of not less than RM150,000. It allows the manufacturing and assembly of luxury passenger vehicles as well as the manufacturing and assembly of commercial vehicles. According to Tan Chong, TCMC Sabah will be manufacturing/assembling 4WD vehicles at the new Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park plant, to be set up at a cost of RM285 million. The site will sit on 50 acres of land and the factory has a planned annual output of 3,000 units per annum.

It’s not known to us at this point what vehicles will be made at the new plant, perhaps more will be revealed later!

OTR not under rm150k. That leaves only the Murano and X-trail. Maybe they will introduce the Qashqai as well…

Why should you dragged political sentiments here. Borneo is well known as 4X4 land, so is not a surprise for automotive player to set up their assembly factory in East Malaysia like Isuzu did in Kota Kinabalu.

The export base theory explains that the only way the economy of a region can grow is through export, and through export it helps to stimulate other sectors of the economy to grow…in this case, the car manufacturing facility to be set up in Sabah can further increase the state’s export, other than oil palm and others…

Nissan eyes on East Malaysia especially Sabah with 4WD ratio not less than sedan market definately worth a go to compete with Toyota which manufacturing in Thailand. It would definately boost up Nissan 4WD market in Sabah & Sarawak such as Frontier, Mother Trucker, Murano, Xtrail, Patrol etc but definately no GTR bcoz of the terrible road condition & flood. Palm estate & construction industry need more. Can u believe there is no Petrol available at the Petrol Station only Diesel after Tawau? all the way to Semporna. Make sure ur viva can fill with Diesel XD.

No wonder the new Navara LE can’t give me the luxury feel anymore.. disappointed they can’t remain the quality.. :( reduce cost to make new factory.. then up-price to gain the quality later?? Today I’m so so disappointed.. but the new Ford 3.2 impress me! so wild n a lot accessories included with 120k price.. nice! compared to 2012 Navara 106K with downgraded version?? :(:(:(:( I wonder Nissan bye2 or just keep my old navara for collection instead.. :(:(:(:(
