Unveiled at the recent 2015 Detroit motor show, the 2017 Ford GT was, arguably, the highlight of the entire convention. Taking the stage at the same show in which its predecessor debuted 13 years ago, the reboot of Ford’s Le Mans legend is set to go into production next year – exactly 50 years after it first won Le Mans.
Under the hood, the Ford GT is powered by a mid-mounted, twin-turbo 3.5 litre V6 EcoBoost mill. While final power figures are not set in stone just yet, the engine is said to put out over 600 hp. All that force goes to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
As impressive as the tech specs are, the amount of passion poured into the development of the car is second to none, as demonstrated in this video by Ford and Xbox. Going behind the scenes of the car’s conception, the video details the creative as well as engineering efforts that went into the development of the car.
With key members providing their take on the project – including Ford design director, Chris Svensson, along with global marketing manager, Henry Ford III and Forza Motorsport creative director, Dan Greenawalt – the five and a half minute-long video provides viewers with an insight as to how the different divisions within Dearborn worked to revive one of the most evocative nameplates in motorsport history.
