McLaren MP4-12C updated – 25 PS more, faster shifts

McLaren has announced a package of enhancements for its MP4-12C that makes the supercar “even more invigorating to drive yet even easier to live with”. Headlining the changes is a 25 PS power increase for the mid mounted, 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, which now makes 625 PS. The new engine mapping has not altered the MP4-12C’s efficiency – it does 11.7 litres per 100 km in the EU combined cycle.

McLaren also tweaked the seven-speed SSG transmission for crisper throttle response and improved clutch control for gear changes that are both faster and smoother.

The MP4-12C’s Intake Sound Generator (ISG) that controls the amount of engine intake sound heard in the cabin, is now programmable across three levels in all three Powertrain modes (Normal, Sport, Track). With the 2013 spec 12C, the driver will be able to select the level of engine noise delivered in each mode through an electronic menu accessible via the instrument cluster.

Ease of use is improved through a host of detail changes. A small button mounted on each door replaces the touch sensor system, based on customer feedback. To improve safety, an enhancement will be made to the headlight activation settings – with the ‘AUTO-lights’ mode selected, the 12C’s headlights will be automatically switched on when rain is detected.

The climate control will have a new ‘AUTO LO’ setting – lower fan speeds, quieter cabin. A wider variety of paint, leather and wheel options give customers yet more scope for personalisation. The McLaren logo, called Speed Marque, has been subtly revised.

All the above revisions will be available to existing customers, at no cost.

    On paper, this is one hell of a car. Sadly as we can all see and read from autocar/Evo/Topgear the 458 is still one of the better ones..

      Because MP4-12C is just a pure bits of engineering wonders being put together with no soul;

      While 458 is about passion and flamboyance at its best while enclosed in a decent automotive technological package.

      458 looks better too.

  • Can’t wait for our very own Lotus supercars to beat this crap out of hell. It took Mclaren so long to come out with 1 models. We have 5.

      If you have to compare, the current McLaren F1 team are winning more GP than Lotus. Oh wait. Lotus is only a title sponsor. When it comes to automotive engineering, no doubt McLaren is one of the best. Lotus only bask in their glorious past. With current internal problem, hard to see those new Lotus come to fruition anytime soon.

      Supercars are not designed to be practical. And Preve is not even the most practical. Want practical? Buy a Hilux. Can carry absolute anything. Can carry passangers too. Also able to go off-road. And it’s one tough machine.

    Nothing beats 1995 McLaren F1. A Legendary sports car which held “FASTEST CAR IN THE WORLD TITLE” from 1994 to 2007. It’s also a 3 seater, more practical than this…
