VIDEO: G12 BMW 7 Series Malaysian walk-around tour

Last week, you saw the rather upmarket Nissan NP300 Navara pick-up in our walk-around video tour series; today, we’re taking things on a whole new level of luxury. Say hello to the G12 BMW 7 Series, the newest version of Munich’s flagship luxury sedan – launched last month, it’s built to take on the W222 Mercedes-Benz S-Class at its own game.

All-new for 2016, the 7 Series is built on an all-new modular platform, utilising carbon-fibre, magnesium, aluminium and steel in its construction. Dubbed Carbon Core, it enables the 7 Series to be as much as 130 kg lighter than the previous-generation F01/F02, even though it is longer than before.

The G12 (so called because it is the long-wheelbase version; the SWB 7er is codenamed G11) is is available in two variants – the “base” RM598,800 730Li is powered by a downsized 2.0 litre TwinPower Turbo four-pot petrol delivering 258 hp from 5,000 to 6,500 rpm and 400 Nm of torque from 1,550 to 4,400 rpm.

Moving up, the RM788,800 740Li is motivated by a 3.0 litre turbo straight-six punching out 326 hp from 5,500 to 6,500 rpm and 450 Nm of torque from 1,380 to 5,000 rpm. Both are mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission as before, sending power to the rear wheels.

Plenty of new technology on offer on the G12, including the new Laserlight headlights, newfangled BMW Display Key with integrated touchscreen, Welcome Light Carpet, Sky Lounge panoramic roof, overhauled iDrive infotainment system (now with gesture control), rear-mounted BMW Touch Command seven-inch tablet, as well as BMW Driving Assistant Plus that offers up semi-autonomous driving functions.

As usual, you can browse CarBase.my for full specifications, equipment and options on offer. But enough writing – watch the video above to learn everything you need to know about the G12 BMW 7 Series, and sound off in the comments after the jump. Thanks for watching.

He has a very unique Malaysia+English accent. At first, I am not very used to it, but now, I kinda like the way he present himself, whether it’s in the walk around videos or driven review. He has a touch of elegance but not too “mat salleh”, making it very dignify and at the same time, feels home ;)

For such an expensive premium car, can’t they make the bumper and body same color although both parts are made from different material ?
I can see color difference between the body and the lower parts of the body (front and back bumper) in this white BMW.

  • It doesn’t matter what technology or what carbon fibre weight savings.. When your competition (read S-Class) look this good and you can’t make your product sexy enough, nothing is going to save you.

I thought LWB S-Classes is codenamed V222? IIRC, SWB is W222, Maybach is X222.

Went to see both the 740 and 730Li in the showrooms and somehow I prefer this over the S maybe due to the clean, simple and business-like look that it offers. If any more luxury is needed, can always opt for the BMW owned RR…

Yes, he S still looks very dignified and classy. Perhaps BMW had to infuse style with futuristic hints which has always been their forte.

I like this car. How far we’ve come. Back in the 90s we were justifying why it’s ok with an E200 and 520i. Now even this segment gets 4 cylinder turbos.
