The palmares, or race wins, of the Aprilia Factory Works machines is not to be scoffed at, with 54 world motorcycle racing titles. Its most successful race machine is the RSV4, which garnered seven world superbike titles since 2009, as well as the 2015 FIM Superstock 1000 rider and manufacturer titles.
What does this mean? Well, following the trend of manufacturers allowing both MotoGP and World Superbike (WSBK) technology to trickle down to the street – sort of – Aprilia is now offering the 2017 Aprilia RSV4 Factory Works FW-GP racing replica.
Drawing on Aprilia’s expertise in racing, the RSV4 FW-GP features pneumatic valves, as used in its 2015 RS-GP 15 MotoGP machine. The engine is over-bored to 81 mm, and makes a claimed “maximum power of more than 250 hp.”
In addition, the FW-GP is fitted with Aprilia’s APX2 central electronic engine management systems, which also features real-time data and suspension logging as an option. The intake features variable-length trumpets, along with adaptive traction control, adjustable engine braking, wheelie and launch control, and quickshifting in both up and down directions.
An Akrapovic full-titanium exhaust comes standard – for racing purposes only – and the FW-GP’s suspension includes an Ohlins Racing FGR 300 front fork, which is adjustable for steering head angle and offset. At the back an Ohlins TTX GP rear shock is installed, modified by Forcellone Racing.
Braking – as is customary at this level of motorcycle – is done by Brembo, using its famed Monobloc Racing 30-34 asymmetrical piston calipers grabbing 336 mm double-discs in front, with a single 218 mm floating brake disc at the back. Fuel is carried in a 22.5-litre aluminium tank, with wheels made from the same material, albeit in lightweight form.
Customers of the Aprilia RSV4 FW-GP will be hosted at the Aprilia Racing headquarters in Noale, Italy, where they will be allowed to discuss the bike’s setup and configuration with Aprilia’s engineers. During the bike’s build, customers will receive “live” updates of progress.
Purchase of the Aprilia RSV4 FW-GP also includes an Aprilia Racing full leather suit, and a paddock pass for a MotoGP weekend. As part of the package, FW-GP owners will be invited to participate in Aprilia track days, where Aprilia engineers will be on hand to adjust the bike’s suspension setup, as well as mechanical and electronic adjustments.
As part of the Factory Works package, technical training and information will be provided to adapt the FW-GP to the rider’s and circuit characteristics, plus a session on the track with the Aprilia Racing test team. Price of the 2017 Aprilia RSV4 FW-GP is 160,000 euro (RM748,633), ex-works Noale.
This compares against other limited edition “super-race” machines such as the Honda RC213V-S at 188,000 euro (RM679,844), the KTM RC16 at 120,000 euro (RM561,474), and Ducati 1299 Superleggera at 76,577 euro (RM358,300). Other versions of the Aprilia RSV4 Factory Works machines include the RSV4 R FW-SSTK1 (no power figure given), the RSV4 R FW-SSTK2 with 204 hp and the RSV4 R-FW SBK with 215 hp.
