SPIED: Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in M’sia, launch soon?

SPIED: Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in M’sia, launch soon?

It’s been nearly three years since the latest Mitsubishi Pajero Sport was introduced in Thailand, and still Malaysia has yet to receive it. That could finally change as the pick-up-based SUV has been spotted by reader Acoi Al-Ameer at Puspakom Wangsa Maju, hinting at an impending local launch.

The vehicle in question appears to be a top-spec model, judging by the bi-LED headlights, lashings of chrome exterior trim and large 18-inch two-tone alloy wheels. There really isn’t much to be said about the Dynamic Shield face, vertical LED tail lights and mildly rejigged Triton interior, given that we’ve already written so much about them.

It should be noted that in other markets, the Pajero Sport is available with a Forward Collision Mitigation System (autonomous emergency braking), Blind Spot Warning and a Ultrasonic Misacceleration Mitigation System that protects against pedal misapplication. While we’re not sure if ours will have it, it’s not too far of a stretch, given that top-spec Triton models already have seven airbags and stability control.

Also already offered on the Triton is the 2.4 litre MIVEC turbodiesel engine making 181 hp and 430 Nm of torque, although the Aisin eight-speed automatic transmission is still only available on the Pajero Sport. The Super-Select 4WD-II full-time four-wheel drive system with an Off-road Mode and Hill Descent Control is also limited to the Pajero Sport.

The current Pajero Sport’s launch in Malaysia is somehow already overdue. Here in Indonesia it’s a best seller, so best selling that it is no longer imported from Thailand but locally assembled instead.

Pajero Sport in Indonesia have become the ride of choice for the newly-rich, politicians, as well as mining/oil companies’ fleet of SUVs. The sales are indeed also spread rather evenly across the major Indonesian islands.

    Way to go Mitsubishi Malaysia!!

Another failure for Mitsubishi Malaysia just like Outlander because of poorly-efficient fuel consumption. Malaysian ditched Mitsubishi long time ago

Heard about this Pajero Sport coming to Malaysia for around 2 years already.. If they still price this sky high w/o kit.. Then it’s Goodbye Mitsubishi.

  • The first thing I would do after getting the Pajero Sport is put on aftermarket rear lamp covers with body-colored part for those two red ‘tears running down’.

  • The rear is like as though the back lamps are melting. The interior, with fake wood panels, are so 90s. Come on Mitsu you could do much better than this.

I’ve been saying I’ll buy this car when it comes to Malaysia since 3 years ago it launch in Thailand. But the bottom line is they come with the spec that introduce in Thailand like the Safety System and the interior. Sorry, the wood trim is not for me, it’s consider a deal breaker.
