FIRST DRIVE: Mercedes-Benz CLS450 AMG Line

Last year, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia introduced a host of Dream Car models, one of which was the third-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS. It made its local debut in CLS 450 Edition 1 form alongside the AMG CLS 53 4Matic+ in August.

The four-dour coupe is powered by a M256 3.0 litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder unit offers 362 hp at 5,500 to 6,100 rpm and 500 Nm from 1,600 to 4,000 rpm for its base output numbers. The engine features a 48-volt lithium-ion on-board power network as well as an integrated starter generator system.

Aside from aiding the car’s 12-volt system by supplying additional power for required components, the system offers a 250 Nm and 16 kW (21 hp) performance boost function for a short period. Paired with a 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic transmission, the CLS 450 does the 0-100 km/h run in 4.8 seconds and has a 250 km/h top speed.

The local CLS 450 is an AMG Line variant, which dresses the car up with an AMG Line exterior and interior. Riding on 20-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels, standard equipment on this one includes Multibeam LED headlights with adaptive high beam assist plus, an Agility Control lowered comfort suspension, an AMG sport steering wheel dressed in Nappa leather, COMAND Online navigation and a Burmester surround sound system.

Priced at RM698,888 on-the-road without insurance, the CLS 450 has since been joined by another variant, the CLS 350. How then does the range-topping regulation CLS drive? Find out in the video above. As always, share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.

P1 can never be like Volvo or Mercedes. This is because P1 is full of pemalas whilst Volvo and Mercedes all got very hard working people

30 years ago life was so simplem
there was the w124 e class (not known as e class). Then there was the beautiful coupe version of it.

Then there was the baby merc 190e. However malaysia didn’t get the cosworth version or the 2.3 16.

For the top end there is always the S class, the coupe. Then the AMG version of the coupe (560SEC) and the sporty SL.

And the G class wagen, not sold in malaysia.

Not complicated at all unlike the merc and BMW of today.

That was 30 years ago bro… We dint have smartphone, even pc wasn’t streamline too. Car companies have to evolve to what public demand or else they cannot survive. Same to what is happening currently to Apple.

Things that never change, is change.

I bought my Mercedes 200 brand new for RM57k in 1982. Top of the range was Mercedes 280SE at RM120k in Malaysia

Top of the range for BMW was the 735i at RM125k

Strangely UK price for Mercedes 200 was 20,000 pounds in 1982. Now in 2019 the E250 in the UK is 30,000 pounds. Only gone up 10,000 pounds

But in Malaysia Mercedes 200 in 1982 was RM57,000 but in 2018 is RM400,000
