2020 Triumph Daytona to launch at British MotoGP

Long rumoured after the release and successful sales of the Triumph 765RS naked sports, the 2020 Triumph Daytona will be officially launched at the 2019 British MotoGP. A new Daytona 765 was expected after Triumph’s 2019 engine supply contract for Moto2 and it appears that the new middleweight sports bike will first be sold as a limited edition.

With the moniker “Triumph Daytona Moto2 765 Limited Edition”, the new sports machine from Hinckley will come in two versions, one for Europe and Asia, the other for US and Canada, probably due to emissions requirements. Production is limited to 765 bikes and each Daytona 765 will come with its edition number laser etched into the triple clamp.

Triumph is claiming a sizeable increase in horsepower from its inline-triple, with “significantly more power and torque” than either the previous generation 675R or the 765RS. Since, according to spec, the 765 makes 121 hp while the Moto2 race bikes make around 138 hp, we would guess power output for the Daytona 765 might fall somewhere in the middle at around 130 hp.

Specification for the Daytona Moto2 765 Limited Edition will only be released during the launch on the weekend of August 23, 2019 but based on our personal experience with the 765RS, expect to see Brembo doing the braking, probably with Stylema callipers and suspension by Ohlins. Arrow supplies a titanium exhaust system that mimics the system used in Moto2 and Triumph says the Daytona Moto2 765 will start being sold in March 2020.

Inside the cockpit a full-colour TFT-LCD panel displays an official Moto2 start up screen with five rider modes, including a track mode. A bi-directional quickshifter comes standard and bodywork will come in a monoschrome Union Jac scheme, following the design on the Daytona 765 Moto2 prototype seen recently.

While Triumph has not revealed pricing for the 2020 Daytona Moto2 765 Limited Edition, a check with Malaysian Triumph distributors Fast Bikes showed a price “well into six figures.” Deposits are now being taken for the four units allocated to the Malaysia motorcycle market with two units already being spoken for.
