Proton records 11,117 registrations in December – 100,821 units sold in 2019, Saga and X70 top sellers

Proton has announced its sales performance numbers for December 2019, reporting that it sold 11,117 units last month, a jump from the 9,643 units it managed in November. Those numbers made December the best performing month for the brand in 2019, and also the first time the company has sold more than 11,000 cars in a month since July 2014.

It was also good enough to help the national carmaker reach its target of 100,000 units this year. The company reported that total sales for 2019 closed at 100,821 units (domestic + export), an increase of 55.7% over 2018 and the first time it has crossed the 100,000 unit threshold since 2015. Overall market share for the year is estimated to be at 16.7%, the highest figure since 2014.

While the figures released by the company has in the past included both domestic sales as well as exports, the automaker should have achieved its 100k domestic target. As of November 2019, total sales stood at 89,066 units, and the December figure would bring it to 100,183. There should be no deviation, given that its reported numbers for October and November 2019 matched the official figures released by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) in its vehicle sales data sets for the two months.

In terms of model-specific performance, the Saga was the company’s top seller. Sales in December amounted to 3,892 units, and total sales for 2019 closed at 38,144 units. The X70 was the second best performer for the brand, ending 2019 with a total of 26,331 units sold. As for the Persona, it contributed to the final tally with a total of 21,876 units.

“The X70 and the Saga are two major ingredients to Proton’s sales success this year. We are humbled by the popularity of the X70 and would like to say a big thank you to all our customers for their support, despite it being a brand new market segment for the company. As for the Saga, with over 41,000 bookings and counting, it remains our core product and a popular choice regardless of a buyer’s age, status and purchasing power, making it a car for all Malaysians,” said Proton CEO Li Chunrong.

No specific numbers were offered for the Iriz and Exora, but the company said that sales of the Iriz nearly doubled for the year and grew by 97% following the introduction of the updated model in April. Meanwhile, the refreshed Exora saw a 40% growth in sales last year.

As long they got customer ic number then all kaotim. Pre book sure need ic number for record. Mitsubishi were trying to transfer the whip and chain locks technology plus the slave labouring knowhow but you see, Proton workers are too ethical and respectful of fellow human beings to comprehend what these Japs were trying to teach. Once Proton management board found out, they kicked them Japs all the way back to Nippon and disallowed them to come back for 10 years. Eventually they returned back via Tan Chong Motors, another bloodsucker of their employees. I’m glad Proton didn’t follow their culture of slavery.

I notice Proton nowadays do facelift a lot different than Perodua. How different? Well, simply to say Proton adds more features but the lower the price. While Perodua, did you read the news about their Bezza facelift? They add a few items and increase the price.

We haven’t seen the full Bezza facelift yet but from the teases, I’m liking some of the “lift” particularly the headlights but since I’m quite sure the drive experience will remain the same as my current Bezza, I’ll pass. Now, you can’t quite say like that with a Proton.. because a “Facelift” on a Proton almost feels like a different car even if its the same model+generation.

Most of us are cheaters. And you know it yourselves when you looking for cheat codes in you games or when you copy your friend’s answer in exams or when you promise yourself to sleep at 9.00p.m but when you look at the clock it’s already 9.00p.m you thought to yourself, just another 30 minutes, I’ll for surely sleep at 9.30p.m and repeat until you realize it’s 2.00a.m already or when you’re driving and you’re in the wrong lane and you won’t suppose to change lane because it’s double line but you see there were not “a lot” of cars so you change lane anyway and you get honked by someone but you act like you didn’t do anything wrong or you honk back and reacted angrily like stupid.

So, yes. But I don’t know about a public listed company how well they can cheat their figures. Also, isn’t it if they have more figures means they have to pay more to investors?

Thank you to DRB for giving the freedom & full support to abang-abang locals that enable them to excel.

Thank you to our awakened rakyat for seeing the merits of buying Proton and not the other.

Thank you to Najib for giving a good partner in Geely and finally breaking Proton free from its chain of burden to an old hack.

Thank you to Geely for giving the freedom and full support to our abang-abang locals management team to run the company with some professional guidance by Dr Li.

Thank you to Paul Tan for continuously covering the latest news of Proton and for your no-holds bared positive feedback on Proton’s ever improving levels. Especially when one or two writers are even willing to buy a Proton for their loved ones, this is a testament to their confidence in the car and in the company.

And lastly, thank you to the online supports that is ever unwavering that gives a huge motivation for Proton to achieve this success. All of yours endeavour in putting the spotlights onto Proton’s ever improving efforts, our abang-abang locals engineering, R&D and production capabilities, and of course highlighting Malaysians silent love for Proton goes a long way to lay bare the fake news, lies, myths, spins and negativity about Proton, Proton cars, and Proton staffs.

Furthermore, how can Malaysian be proud of their second national car ( perodua ) when it is engineered by Japanese and not Malaysian.

As of the end of 2019, our internal quality review GCPA score was 1,190 points, which is 6 times improvement over the first use of this scoring standard in 2017. This is also higher than Geely’s existing quality score, proving that our efforts have paid off and the competitor has only 4,500 points. “

Proton reported its total sales achieved 100k mark this year and while total sales for saga, persona and x70 were 38k, 21k and 26k respectively … Bear in mind x70 got 15k bookings in 3 weeks of December 2018.

Which brings the total number x70 sold in 2019 was actually only 11k. Or about 800-900 units per month.

Li chunrong cannot lie about this fact, the total 26k for x70 was actually the number of cars registered and sold since they don’t have immediate stocks upon launching.

Someone comment “can’t count bookings into sold, is cheating” while you comment contradicts that. So which one is really correct?

Since you mention it like that, I begin to wonder about my recent bought from Perodua. My loan was approved on October 2018 but the salesperson keep telling me that they don’t have stock yet. When I received my car, it was on January 2019 (road tax is also Jan 2019 but I’ve been told the model I get was a 2018 model. I didn’t think too much about it then but now I begin to think, could it be that they purposely pushed it to Jan 2019 just so they can include that into 2019 sales figure? Also, why is it that they keep on saying there’s no stock but gave me a 2018 model?

    • Logical Deduction on Jan 03, 2020 at 4:49 pm

Your logic got something fused bro? Even if bookings are done in Dec 2018, sales can only close when deliveries are made in Jan 2019 onwards. So it is reasonable to include whatever booked in Dec 2018 and delivered in 2019 as 2019 sales.

If I follow your logic, can I say that whatever booked in Dec 2019 should be included in 2019 sales figures? Then you will cry as Saga still has 41,000 bookings undelivered yet.

      Use some logical deduction bro.
