The public pilot programme for the Touch n Go radio-frequency identification (RFID) system, which started in September 2018, is coming to an end. Therefore, the RFID tags will no longer be free of charge, but will cost RM35 starting February 15. This also means that there’s slightly more than a week to go if you want to have the RFID sticker on your car at zero cost.
Touch n Go says that since the pilot programme started, there have been 55 million transactions worth RM104.5 million made via RFID. The company says that all feedback has been taken, and with a 99% transaction success rate, they have a good and ready product in hand.
“We have invested in one million TnG RFID Tags for Malaysians to experience this technology during our public pilot programme this past 18 months. Now it is the time for us to move forward and continue to expand the use of RFID technology together with our partners across the mobility ecosystem. This includes fuelling, parking and retail drive throughs,” said Syahrunizam Samsudin, CEO of Touch n Go.
To get the TnG RFID Tag, one can visit the company’s three permanent installation centres or any of the 81 mobile fitment centres. You would have seen the TnG fitment crew at shopping malls and popular petrol stations – the full list of locations can be found on TnG’s website. TnG is eventually looking at self-fitment packs, and what was shown at today’s launch event resembles mobile SIM card packs.
As for the price of RM35, the company says that its product is good value compared to RFID products in other countries – it was pointed out that RFID devices are priced at the equivalent of RM454, RM99 and RM55 in Singapore, Australia and Taiwan respectively. The price includes one-time free replacement (on the same vehicle) should there be damage from whatever cause.
In conjunction with the launch of the TnG RFID Tag, the company is having a lucky draw of sorts where 40 winners will win “one year of free toll”, which is RM2,500 of TnG eWallet credit. The promotion is from Feb 15 to April 15, and there will be five weekly winners. Fit your RFID within this period for a shot at the prize.
Syahrunizam also urged TnG users to add their physical cards into the Touch n Go eWallet to avoid the cards from ever going dormant. Doing this would also allow for faster e-refund for cards – the company promises refunds within 24 hours for values of below RM10 and seven to 14 working days for refunds above RM10. 5minit jer nk install TnG RFID kat Irizku… but mcm biasa, rakyat biasa suke tunggu last minit..
Still waiting for RFID to be enabled for PLUS tolls.
now…with self fitment pack…can stick not necessarily on HeadLight ?
how did they come up with the price MR35? it’s outright profiteering from the public.
‘The company says that all feedback has been taken, and with a 99% transaction success rate, they have a good and ready product in hand.’!!
Seriously? Sometimes you got to drive and almost touch the boom gate before it opens (especially Sprint highway heading towards Damansara). Sensing distance is not consistent on all boom gates. This will cause a jam at the gates once fully implemented as everyone will drive very slowly when approaching the boom gate.
If they want to encourage the usage, the tag shud b free. Are they going to reimburse the money consumer pay for buying the smart tag? This is robbery. Malaysia boleh
Do you even read the article when it says free right there?
I hope Malaysians don’t procrastinate to install it while still free and then complain endlessly later when having to pay for it.
Seriously, there is no loss to install it now even if you aren’t going to use it right now. Stop waiting and procrastinating and just get it done. Its just so convenient, easy, and fast to install it.
RFID is a waste of time because half the time, the lane is jammed by some bodoh who cannot go through.
I don’t know why these people are so stupid. If scanner cannot scan your car, just use your Touch and Go card and scan it like before.
Too many kampung people coming into bandar, unable to think and be creative to solve small problems. They cause massive jams in the toll booths.
Blame the bandar people for not ensuring they have sufficient credit before they come back from kampung.
just to confirm.. there will be no fees involve by using rfid?
RFID actually super fast. One time the barrier rosak and left open, I sped through the RFID lane thinking i wont get charged. Mana tau I was actually charged.
The problem with this RFID is the stupid slow barriers.
Just rang up TouchnGo & checked, even before the cut-off date on the 15/2/2020, they have closed down all mobile fitment centres in Malaysia 2 weeks ago except for 3 permanent ones in Kepong, PJ & KL listed on their website.
This indicates that they are monopolizing and profiteering. What happens if people just tear it off , the wear and tear of the sticker . Anyone can just walk up to a car and tear it out , those people would need to go replace another RM35 again . Money generating machine wuhoooo.
pls let me know the location of registration at shah alam. selangor
TnG is happy with 99% success rate for rfid? seriously, tng? Everyday, we have tens of thousands of vehicles going through toll booths, going in and coming out. 1% failure rate means there will be hundreds of vehicle stranded at the toll everyday!
Nothing short of 99.99% is acceptable, else it’s a disgraceful failure.
today i went out to some center try to install RFID, then the staff told me they are no more tag n can only got it after 15 FEB, so now the tag will not be free anymore, is it all the center will have some answer?
