As reported, Touch n Go (TnG) has started the public pilot programme for the radio-frequency identification (RFID) system, a new electronic toll payment system that uses a sticker on the car to pass through toll gates. After physical TnG cards and the Smart Tag, RFID is the next step in electronic toll collection.
The RFID tag, which comes in the form of a sticker with a tiny grain-like chip (some would have noticed this on Uniqlo price tags and Decathlon product labels) and an antenna, “follows the car” and is registered/installed on one vehicle – unlike a Smart Tag that you can bring from car to car. Have two cars? Each will need its own RFID tag, which is linked to the owner’s Touch n Go eWallet app.
As the vehicle passes through the toll gate, an overhead scanner reads the radio-frequency from the RFID sticker and deducts the toll fare from the user’s eWallet.
To clarify, the eWallet is as advertised – it’s a digital wallet. And like your physical wallet, it only contains as much money as you put in, which is not all the money that you have in the bank. So, it’s not like Visa Paywave or in any way linked to your bank accounts. You’ll need to reload the TnG eWallet – put in RM100 and that’s what you will have in the eWallet, something that users of Boost or FavePay apps would be familiar with.
Reloading is a simple process and can be done in the app itself, anytime via credit card or online bank transfer (Maybank2U, CIMB Clicks, etc). You’ll never have to step into a petrol station TnG kiosk again, and there’s no reload fee for the eWallet too.
Back to the programme. Ahead of RFID’s launch in January 2019, TnG has kicked off a public pilot programme as scheduled, and our Hafriz Shah was among the first registrants to get their RFID tags installed. The trial, open to Klang Valley highway users who drive Class 1 vehicles (passenger cars, vans, 4x4s and pick-up trucks) with private registration, will allow for fine-tuning aspects and troubleshooting to be carried out.
Pilot programme users won’t need to pay for the RFID sticker, but they will still be required to pay toll charges as usual. The RFID lottery winners will need to set up an appointment to have the sticker installed by authorised staff, a process that should take no more than 15 minutes, taking into account the many questions users will ask the installers.
Chatting with the staff at TnG’s customer service centre at the NPE Pantai Dalam toll plaza yestrday, we were told that the pilot programme received overwhelming response – over 100,000 people applied to be among the first 10,000 RFID users.
Currently, each fitment centre is doing 60 cars per day (30 in the morning shift, 30 in the afternoon), but this will soon be ramped up to 100 cars a day. Besides NPE Pantai Dalam, there four other centres are at the Customer Experience Centre in Bangsar South, Kesas R&R Awan Besar, Besraya Loke Yew toll and MEX Salak Selatan toll.
At present, RFID lanes are present on 16 highways, with more to come. One can spot the RFID lanes via the “RFID Tag” logo, and there are three types of RFID lanes around – dedicated ones, and hybrid ones that also accept TnG cards and Smart Tags. What if you forget that RFID is fitted and you take out your Smart Tag out of habit? Hafriz tried exactly that and we can report that RFID takes priority and you won’t be double charged.
As you can see, the RFID sticker’s best location is on the car’s left headlamp. We assumed that the windscreen would be the ideal location, but were told that the sticker can’t be located near metal, which rules out the top of the windscreen and the side next to the A pillars, where most people place their road tax stickers. The signal “gun” used to test reception shows interference if the sticker is placed on the top/side of the windscreen. Window tint is a barrier for in-cabin placement of the sticker, literally.
Sticking the strip on the headlamp might be good for reception, but not for looks. Even though the sticker is transparent and can’t be seen from afar, it’s clearly visible upon closer inspection and does “scar” the appearance of the headlamps somewhat. It can potentially disrupt the operation of LED headlamps too – we saw an Audi A4 with Matrix LEDs coming back for sticker repositioning.
During our time there, we spotted only one car having the TnG RFID sticker placed on the windscreen, and that was only because the owner already had a similar type of RFID strip for his condominium access on the car’s left headlamp. Installation can only be done at authorised fitment centres because the test gun is needed to confirm that the sticker works. Should there be any issues or malfunction, TnG will issue a new sticker at no cost to pilot project participants.
Our man gave his consent, reluctantly, and the sticker now resides flush on his Merc’s LED headlamps. We were told that while “hybrid” stickers for glass and plastic exist, it’s best to standardise the placement. The sticker needs to reside on an angled surface, which makes headlamps ideal for 99% of cars on the road. I can imagine then that it will be tricky for vehicles with bluff front ends (Range Rover, Rolls-Royce) and pop-up headlamps (1990s sports cars), although that wouldn’t concern many.
If you’re thinking of DIY transplanting the sticker to another location yourself, don’t, because it’s designed to stop functioning once peeled. This also means that the sticker is of no use to thieves. If you lose it for some reason, a call to the TnG Careline to suspend the RFID will take care of things. The sticker is also claimed to be dirt, weather and waterproof.
After installation, TnG will send an SMS to the user within 24 hours to inform that the RFID has been activated. Our RFID guinea pig says that the system works as advertised so far, and he was able to coast through the toll gates without any fuss.
As expected, it takes some getting used to – as the familiar Smart Tag beep is absent and the display board doesn’t show eWallet remaining balance, just the toll charge – but one can breeze through the gates faster, and the gantry operates at a slightly faster speed.
By the way, our RFID’s detection range is 2m versus Smart Tag’s 1.5m. Active and battery-assisted RFID tags have greater range, but they require power and are more expensive. Our passive tags use radio energy transmitted by the toll booth readers.
So there you have it, our first hand experience of being among the first to install and use RFID toll payment in Malaysia. No more hiding away and taking out Smart Tags, no more 9V batteries, no more reloading TnG cards at petrol stations and ATMs, and hopefully smoother traffic at toll plazas.
We could all do with the added convenience and time saved, but will have to get used to checking eWallet balance (there should be low balance warning, we haven’t emptied the eWallet yet) and that RFID scar on our headlamps. Here’s one way to look at it: if everyone has the same scar, it becomes more the norm and less ugly – just like the BCG mark on everyone’s arms.
Overall, there are some restrictions we wish weren’t there, but it’s a step in the right direction for sure. What do you think of the TnG RFID system? Watch the video below and share with us your RFID experience in the comments. And no, your Smart Tag won’t become obsolete overnight come January 2019, although the process of phasing out the devices starts now.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
I am not an expert..but I think , this RFID implementer just follow what their consultant or seller advice them to do … out of many location on a car…why is headlamp is selected…I believe , cars with small headlamp lenses will have problem
windscreen is the best location…
Stick onto headlamp is a very stupid idea.
Very good, later peel off the sticker & stick to another car.
Err, nope. “If you’re thinking of DIY transplanting the sticker to another location yourself, don’t, because it’s designed to stop functioning once peeled.”
Err, vandalism like breaking bottles.
Better yet. Lets have this one ‘a’hole with itchy fingers and peel it off for fun from everybody’s car.. it was useless then cuz its not working anymore if its peeled.. then we will see people complaining on the impracticality of it..
Such a waste of money and hundreds of millions down the drain.
Go and learn from Australia and Singapore how they do it. Simple. Even better, ask the Singapore company to implement it in Malaysia
Don’t let it become like AES where 43 cameras cost RM550 million ringgit. One camera become RM13 million ringgit
Time to wake up Malaysia. Time to wake up.
Well you can always stick the rfid sticker on a masking tape, and stick the masking tape on your headlamp. Nak tukar kereta, just peel off the masking tape, not the rfid sticker.
So many complaints from people. From the comment section, it looks like the company in charge of this has no planning.
This is the problem when you give a multi billion contract to a RM2 company with no experience just because fren fren or your abang ipar, kakak ipar, atuk, nenek, cucu, ibu mertua, kakak mertua is the owner of the RM2 company
New Malaysia should eradicate all these old practices..
Most who complaint here haven’t even used it yet. Stop lying again.
Stupid to stick on headlamp. What happens during washing and scrubbing. What if someone peels it off.
Look like the RFID contractor is not ready for this… Try this try that… Isn’t RFID & TnG same company monopoly business no improvement technology 20yrs behind?
The integrated TnG reader in my Myvi pure genius!
Instantly obsoleted technology. Too bad yr car is stuck in last decade.
Well good thing they are not rolling it out completely and have a trial with a smaller number of vehicles ain’t it
Singapore managed to do a system that was perfect 30 years ago. I think we need to learn from the Singaporeans.
30 years later, we still don’t know how to implement a proper system. Singapore Gantry system implementers should come to Putrajaya and teach how to do things right
BS. S’pore ERP started in Apr 1998. what else you got wrong?
I guess its cuz of… “sticker can’t be located near metal, which rules out the top of the windscreen and the side next to the A pillars, where most people place their road tax stickers.” and “Window tint is a barrier for in-cabin placement of the sticker, literally.”
No way putting that tag to new mazda headlights
I live in Taiwan. And the rfid system here only need your sticker to be on the windscreen on the inside. No problems. Learn from them bro.
OMG….WTF…PLS GO FOR GATELESS System lah…puihhh
Its calling as barrier not gate…bro
M’sia problem is the wide disparity between urban & rural. Look at how long it took for compulsory T&G card usage on PLUS.
Even then, the min RM30 top up value was scrapped due to rural users maybe unable to afford it.
So this RFID will be an urban thing & it’ll probably be another 20 years before rural drivers are forced to changed to RFID.
lack of education.
Almost every now and then passing a tolgate, sm dude in front holding the traffic cos not enough balance in card.. Sometime i wonder, isit really that they cant afford it or its just the attitude/awareness/laziness to keep the essentials on check.. Btw, not denying the gates too have glitches often, thus raises the question of how efficient will this rfid thinggi be? For me, im gonna stick to my t&g card while rfid manage to find resolution and get the system working stable..
What bullshit is this ?. Stick on the car headlight ?, are you out of your mind ?. I am pretty sure it will cause the shadow of the sticker pattern flashing out by the headlight beam. worst still if that car has an adaptive headlight, the shadow will follow as well… !!!!
How about wear and tear of the sticker due to car washing, chemical or environment ?, do we need again pay for the replacement ?. Goodness.
How about 4×4 just came out of jungle tracking with headlight covered with mud and sand. will it still work ?. That will cause the sticker to worn out quicker too.
if u drive long distance frequently, especially at night, the headlamps will be splattered with bugs. but how come this does not impede the headlights performance, as u say shadow in my car? which also has adaptive light system? maybe u r the smartest here. care to explain?
the sticker is very tough. some new condos already use this, n the sticker does not deteriorate even 2 years of usage.
new systems are introduced for advancement, n yet complain, better stick to cash right? n then complain say other countries more modern.
I’m smart because if we do a cost benefit analysis, it costs me to switch, but benefits TnG immensely, from money deposited direct into their wallets and less money needed to source outlets to service reloads, less operating costs. What’s in it for me? I only see a whole new round of costs with little to no benefit. Not that tolls are introducing boomless toll gates, like what they do in Australia.
Lol. Rfid is a radio frequency identification la.. Not affected by external factors.. Macam your company badge.. You are a joke. Haha
Dude…I have seen this in most Taiwan car for yearsssss man. It is normal to stick on the headlamp.
– I Have Just Added A Comment –
This is a long term plan. They want your sticker to be worn out because of washing, rain, heat, heat from the lamp, acid rain etc
So that you can go back to them and they will charge you RM100 for a replacement.
This is sustainability in Malaysia. Long term plan. Long term profits for the company
Imagine some mat rempit go around parking lot peeling off these tags randomly.
“…because it’s designed to stop functioning once peeled. This also means that the sticker is of no use to thieves.”
no use to theif doesn’t mean safe from vandals…
still inconvenient for you
How can it stop functioning after being peeled? If it is so fragile, installation alone probably breaks 50 percent of the stickers. :)
Just like the road tax stickers, which are certainly peelable and “re-usable”, just not by extremely careless people.
Probably non-functional after being peeled as an anti-theft measure. If people cannot use it (unlike Smartag device), then there’s no incentive for them to steal.
Since when mat rempit does anything useful?
if you x puas hati with sumone, just peel their RFID sticker..haha
Those double parking or parking at OKU illegally just peel off their RFID.
Knowing Malaysians, many youth will get “tagan gatal” and just peel off or scratch the sticker just for fun, and you the driver most probably wont check if the sticker is ok or not until you get stuck at the toll booth.
Tagan? You can’t even spell correctly..let alone talk about technology
very unlikely. The new order has reformed and infused MY pipu from all income backgrounds with civilized 1st world mentality.
Must fix inside instead outside..
Will spoil the device againt weather & person’s who always gatal tangan…
If i hated somebody, and i know his car has this sticker on the ‘outside’, all i have to do i simply peel it off. Though i am not stealing, can you imagine if this person goes thru the toll, and it beeps because its missing. what does he do? though he gets a new replacement the next day or so, he would be troubling other motorist behind him . And whats stopping me from pulling it out again when he gets a replacement? The RFID should be something placed inside of the screen and not outside. This is ridiculous.
seriously la..so uninformed or so ignorant, yet comment.
that sticker is not so easy to peel la adui. its not the type u can just take it out. if u want to take it off its literally like stripping a tattoo.
Yeah. With msian climate, even paint can wear off what more some rfid sticker. Pls use dubai salik RFID system. u can stick in your car on windscreen as usual no problem. No battery required, no need to slow down to 50 kmh. Perhaps T&G need to find better vendor instead of some chinese knock off.
I think salik is the best toll collection system in the world. RFID tags survived the most extreme temperature (over 50 degrees in summer), registered to a car and easy to top up, no need to slow down because of no toll both and lower maintenance (no gantry or stupid palang)
But then malaysia is a democracy. Even people with money will feel inconvenient with almost anything and they will complain if salik implemented here in malaysia.
yes, UAE AbuDhabi Dubai toll (salik) best implementation. Even their speed trap damn good.
what if bird berak on my sticker? What happens?
There will be a long queue at the toll booth. Even radio frequency also cannot go through berak lah even though they say can
Cannot go through bird poo? Someone here obviously dunno jack about RF tech and just talking out of his rear hole. Habitual liar in this forum.
Dei, read the article again. It was already mentioned that it can be ‘PEELED’ off. And the other keyword if you read the article is “If you lose it for some reason…” So there is a chance the the RFID sticker can be lost.. If not, they won’t mentioned it in the article.. And FYI, RFID is a sticker, not an engraving process on the headlamp, like tattoo on the skin…
the key word by Winston is “HATE”…and the other key word in the article is “PEELED”..not easy but can be done if really hate someone..so why expose ourselves so such risk? stupid idea.
Imagine getting into accident and headlights damaged..in addition to fixing lamps now need to fix RFID..sigh..no such issue with Smart Tag
with the new technology, takkanla tak blhletak indside the windscreen of the car, move on la, this technology dah lama n sepatutnya ada improvement when you implement this…
This contract was given by the previous Government to a contractor that has no clue about anything.
Time to review this contract. Give it to a more competent company
i believe TnG did feasibility study before they go for final decision. the idea to implement RFID was good enough for our country. unfortunately place it on headlamp. seriously guys? if other country can do, even paultan said 1 car only stick on windscreen due to his house have same method. if others can, why RFID cant place somewhere else? i cant understand why. its unacceptable. you guys should know at the first place.
I’m speculating here so just bear with me to see if you agree. The RFID stickers probably won’t work because most of us use non-standardized tint on our cars windshield. Otherwise the RFID sticker would have to be installed first before tinting our car and that would be really inconvenient. Don’t believe me? check out how often our Smart TAGs don’t work when passing through toll especially on heavily tinted (or metallic tint) cars. So don’t simply blame Touch & Go as it could be the best compromise they have at this moment. JPJ ask you to tint only 30% (70% VLT) for front windshield, you go an tint more… Anyways it’s still on trial period, so maybe still can be changed
Just to confirm, RFID system only works for those with RFID enabled gantries at BOTH entry and exits, right?
My trip to work only has RFID at entry but not at exit.
what if stolen? so easy to peal it off from headlamp. even if the owner notice it earlier, the car cannot be driven on the toll road because the sticker already stolen. still in this case hastle to the driver. should be placed at the windshield.
LOL as usual Malaysia selects the stupidest and most inferior method. Why not use active RF transmitters like everyone else, such as Singapore’s ERP system?
When you pay peanuts you get monkeys, literally. Lolz.
Even the passive one like in dubai n japan is much better than ours. they probably just looking for the cheapest type and sell here at max profit.
Later MY pipu complain need to replace the 9V battery every year, althou they use it daily. And then later complain why there r those who still use and dun replace it even when battery is indicated low.
Can the new transport minister YB Loke take a trip down to Singapore & see how the ERP RFID works ? Why on earth do one need to stick the chip on the head lamp ?
Just try your best to copy S’pore ‘s ERP system and stop wasting money and effort on new but useless RFID lahh
Then Malaysian will start complain that the active device is expensive. Even smart tag also so many Malaysian doesn’t want to buy 1. Singapore IU cost SGD150 each.
SGD150 for ERP there, nobody complains.
Rm40 for Smarttag here, alredi pipu baying for gov blood.
Are u sure smart tag is selling at rm40?
Yes. In Lazada
Imagine there is a shadow of RFID sticker at night.
Like Barman logo appearing in the cloud when help required
Summoning Barman! I need my tequila! Its life and death situation!
What if like smart tag, the toll supposed to deduct say rm1.50 but deduct rm22, how do we know in rfid. In smart tag , we can check our balance, RFID more process to check balance as it’s supposed to not burden as technology advance.
We can check the transaction amount by referring to the TnG e-wallet app. In my case the amount was updated within 1 minute.
Then more kiasu driver will immediately check their e-wallet balance using their phone on the road. More accident then how la?!
stupidly can’t cure, no one can fix kiasu pattern if thier do.
I’ll feel alot more comfortable having an active transmitter within the car itself, d thing could be recharged via usb
What will the price be? Good that you informed people that you can “breeze” thru at 50kmh. Great advice for the general herd.
So much effort just to pay a freaking toll. In the end they came up with a stupid idea of sticking stickers on the headlamps.
I will stick with my smarttag.
I sticked my RFID access to my condo inside the car windscreen and it seems fine to me. Why on Earth on the headlamp?
Malaysia first on headlamp!!!
If the best placement of the RFID is on the left side headlights, it shows the company did not do enough research. Why do other countries can put this system onto their windscreen? I personally will not make the jump into RFID system until they can put the sticker onto the windscreen. Ever heard of the term vandalism? It is hard to peel it off, but it is still possible right? Good luck to the rat labs!
I rather pay for the expensive active RFID then this sticker
Another flawed pilot implementation. As usual, not properly planned and thought through. How can you implement something which sticks externally, on the headlamp, and left one no less.
It’s not going to last, long term, what with our weather, car washes etc.
I am sure criminals will find a way to peel the stickers and re-use it.
Also, this doesn’t in any way minimize traffic congestion but maybe at toll plazas only…
I feel like I will have a Pininfarina signature on my headlamp, not sure this will be a good thing or not… :(
Too much hassle really. Collecting money from us should be as painless as possible. But this whole RFID on headlamp, installation, queuing for installation, messes up LED lamps and what have you is just plain nonsense.
wa if change new car how ar?
need to go fitment center stick a new one ka?
sure cannot be stolen n sticked to another car?
Everyone arguing about the technology, I want to comment on the “rental” mindset and business model of the Touch n Go.
1. you have to keep a balance on your touch n go card, free interest to Touch n Go Sdn Bhd
2. you have to keep a balance in your e-wallet. Free interest to Touch n Go Sdn Bhd
3. fees, fees everywhere to top up, park etc. More free money to Touch n Go Sdn Bhd
all in the name of “convenience” to the consumer?
The price of the sticker? Warranty period?
Durability/ quality of product under Malaysia weather – hot sunny day suddenly becomes rainy day?
Can it giving out free?
Can it open up to more companies to provide more variety of stickers?
Can it enhance or improve the quality so that can stick inside the car?
Last question towards pakatan harapan Government – when can the toll road abolish???
Dont fight over the sticker la. Supposedly, the gomen should abolish the tolls as promised!
With the experience with the prev Gov., it would be hard not to be suspicious of kickbacks.. That aside, it seems utterly silly that it has to be stuck on headlamps and windscreens to work. WTH.. When we send our cars in for windscreen treatment, won’t it be affected? What’s next, we have to have it stuck in the middle of the windscreen? What??!! It can’t go through tint??!! Sounds like some crap deal which has not been given proper thought or research but smells all Fishy like the previous government.
Danny what was your speed when you go through those gates compared to Smart Tag? How fast does it detects?
It doesn’t goes through metal and water but placing near or even on top of metal doesn’t affects RFID function. Placing it on headlamp is plain dumb idea.
oh ho ho, here gone my PlusMiles benefit after 100% implement RFID tag.
Why can’t we have a cards fixed on the windscreen like in Australia and have gantries to read the cards at entry and exit points instead of bars.Technology has advanced but T n G is still so backward. Please wake up and move with the times
That would be too simple and sensible. Once upon a time had FasTrak and Smart TAG – all went extinct in favour of TnG. Standardising the payment system was a good move, choosing inferior technology was not.
Again TnG done a stupid job with placement of RFID on headlamp. Idiots…better place it on your head.. Dumb
Since RFID is using Radio Frequency, why not just replace a hard drive with installation in vehicle. There were will be better than sticker, 1 devices 1 ID then who’s stolen also can’t to be use. Users are facing smart tag stolen issue, easily to stolen and sell. I’m user of smart tag, I hope our feed back is useful.
this new implementation is to ease toll collection, not a bad idea. it will be easy for city council to implement city congestion charge later date. we will see.
My headlamp got protection film on it. how now?
My rented car in Dubai has a “Salik” rfid sticker on the inside of windscreen. I think it’s the radio frequency reader needs to be improved.
My rented car in Dubai has a “Salik” rfid sticker on the inside of windscreen. I think it’s the radio frequency scanner that needs to be improved. It’s quite ridiculous to stick it on the outside of your car. So many things can happened!
I believe that TNG rotates between installation of the RFID sticker on headlamps and windscreens based on batch of users. The cars in my batch had our stickers installed in the inside of the windscreen, behind the rear view mirror. We are the pilot testers after all.
obviously they wont rotate la. you are testers etc guinea pigs, to determine the best location for the sticker.
They actually stick mine on the windscreen because I have tinted my headlights.
Is it wrong for me to suspect that TnG tried to reduce cost by implementing cheap product which need to be stick outside the car? Can’t they find a better solution? This is totally impractical.
Lousy crap this RFID sticker. I have one RFID sticker placed inside and on top left of my car windscreen to access my condo and it works even with my 3M tint over it and ironically my SmartTAG does not work with my tint so I either have to hold it right at the top middle of my windscreen where the tint guy made a hole for my SmartTAG or I have to wind down my window for quicker reading. I got the email invitation to install this RFID so will see what they have to say when compared with my condo RFID.
I totally hate this system !! I still prefer to stick to my usual tng card reload method.less hassle, and i can still monitor my usage and bal on my e-account of all cards. I hope they dont compulsory impose this system to all car owners, and fairly consider that some people may still prefer conventional methods.pls dont make life difficult for some becos of Advance technology and modernisation, and totally abolish the usage of the previous 2 methods. Give everyone a choice. Tks.
Plain dumb.
Plain dumb. There are solutions for RFID to be installed inside vehicle.
another b**@sh%%^t
you had seen how many booth for smart tag and touchngo operate at each toll plaza. some toll plaza has no smart tag at all
please learn a lesson. dont simply implement something you can’t really fulfill
Why nobody talking about how fast we go through toll with this rfid? Can i go through under 110km/h?
In UAE their RFID tag called Salik. It was implemented around nd 2007. It is placed at the front windscreen with no problem whatsoever. Why can we have like that?
In the case of Malaysia, we would still need to use TnG card as most parking sand LRT would have this facility which is very convenient to users.
as expected, full of complaining this & that..sendiri pun belum cuba tapi berlagak macam tahu
Guys, that’s why its called a PILOT phase. Do u know what that means?
MAlaysian mentality. Complain first, but pakai otak lama lagi
We are in for more trouble with this sticker. Once vandalise the car owner may not even notice it because of it size and transparency. What happen if you pass through the toll gate without the sticker.
Cannot understand this !!! even Smart Tag is still giving hell lot of problems, the implementation of this RFID merely pocketed the authority and contractors who installed the devise, what if vehicle in front suddenly ” stop ” ? this always happened, can we still tekan minyak to proceed without stopping our vehicle ?
OMG.. what if some kids with itchy hand decide to peel yours off.. i know there is many kids that do that.. such as stealing wipers, car radio antennas.. tyre rim covers, Merc logo, toyota logo etc..
The negative points really outweigh its so-called ‘advancements’:
– stick on the OUTSIDE
– balance check via App
– nowhere near metal surface
– HAS TO BE DONE by contractor
We need improvements on those of course.
But we also want tolls abolished in the first place although its clear enough this is not happenning in near future just yet. Then again, placing another silly inconvenience project and call it enhancement to T&G/smartTag is plain stupidity. Just after the T&G app e-wallet bungle which was published just for the sake of having an app, this is another level of bare bone corruption.
What they don’t say is that your car can be tracked at all times.
PH manifesto is to abolish toll… but now wat they did is to improve on how to collect toll faster & more conveniently… well done PH…
Lol! 3rd world reject technology ! What if some itchy hand peel off the sticker off the HL ?
i hope all those who complain here and no one installs this, cause i will enjoy a smooth drive all the time through the RFID.
I love how everyone is so smart these days.
Cost Of Installation Of IU in Singapore. The cost of installing an IU permanently in your car will be S$155.80 (inclusive of 7% GST). thats close to RM 500. n it cant be moved car to car as well. but since its sooo damn good it should be done here right? n then what u all will do? complain n complain n complain! its so expensive la.. crony company la. new Malaysia is a lie la…
Salik dubai system, yeap sticker place in rear view mirror in the car, this is better, n the cost is roughly MYR 56.. but this is virtually in the city (same like ERP) n for each toll gate its MYR 4… there are 7 gates, and if u use all its MYR28. so imagine if thats implemented here, what else..lets complainnnnnn…
Nah! The argument about this tech is moot point if PH Gov actually honours their promise to abolish tolls, which they didn’t.
Stick on your forehead is most suitable place…u could drive any vehicles after that..hahaha..just a joke.
Blardy ftards Malaysian! Listen up!!! 95% of geniuses complaining have not even got three inch closer to the tag to actually comment on reliability yet talking like they know it like the back of their hands… do you comprehend the word ‘test’ to begin with?
wanna compare all the other countries, give free also comment (read: complain) so much, force installation of IU means you guys would practically lose your freakin mind when you see the installation cost of IU (used in SG)
oh and those who comment on better placement inside etc, firstly, your local ah beng and ahmad have tint level that beats russian president limo so of course it would impact reader capabilities, so wise up and follow standard, simple thing like plate number also kenot have one standard version, you wanna talk about tint?
oh and vandalism, the idiot who wants to peel your tag have better chances of just keying your precious car, now tell me more on how scratched up your ride is on a daily basis, unless you one of them guys who got it splashed red indeed!!!
If there’s ever a sport for talking out of the as$ and complaining, Malaysians would be its undisputed world champions.
if the tinted will affected the RFID reading then isn’t it easy to resolve the problem? Once u pass thru the gate, once RFID is unreadable there will b a picture of your car and summon to b send to u… so if u would not wish to receive summon… just keep ur tinted meets the regulation will do… when u stick on ur headlamp, it’s not only vandalism… when u switch on ur headlamp, the heat will build up… it will also cause the adhesive melt…
just like SST ,if you don’t want to pay don’t buy anything, if you don’t like the RFID don’t use it
Why not RTD starts standardising and issue vehicle registration plate with integrated RFID?
Vehicle ownership shall replace the plate concurrently when renewing vehicle road tax annually.
Vehicle registration plate remains as the property of RTD and must surrender back accordingly.
I like it, i think i will peel off a small rectangular shape of my tint and stick it there (inside of the windscreen)
for those early adopters, i just want to know if it’ll damage the sticker after a normal car wash
Will it peàl off when I use machine to clean my most lovely car?
If you are having a luxury car and when you stick it on the headlights and it’s awful !! Especially in Mercedes because it has intelligent light system and it gross when you sticked it over there. Hope that it can be sticked on the windscreen in a prefect location.
Haf bro din find it gross enuff to relent sticking on his headlights. Pls grow up.
Pls fix the location of the toll gantry first, every T&Go and Smarttag gantry not standardized, esp in the KV, some Smarttag gantry located in the middle, some Tambah Nilai lanes in the middle, and certain Smarttag lane at SPrint always poblem…many toll lanes designed with no thought on safety forcing motorist to switch lanes abruptly sometimes 45 dgrees corner
What rubbish is this? We are already behind in compare to other counties. Even South Africa have a system better than use. No need toll gate, not so much restriction. Just stick to the windscreen, with or without tint also ok. Pass the highway without blockage and if you happens that u dun have enough money, A photo will be taken from the back after you pass the spot and it will a evidence posted to you with a fine and the amount you owe. That system was in place more than 5 years ago and we still have this outdate technology In Malaysia. Wake up man. Can we have a better system?
What a stupid idea. Use your brain to think don’t use butt. Rubbish idea.
Stick it to the headlamp is simply plain stupid.. Some kids would definitely go car to car peeling em off just for fun..
Assuming rfid sticker is damaged in rest stop in highway, how to exit highway?
This seems like a great idea to expedite exiting a toll and of course payment.
But I would like to highlight that paying toll is to avoid jam and make our driving experience smooth and fast but unfortunately as widely known and without much effort by the toll collector to improve traffic , if you use Puchong Toll, you will notice that all efforts are put in to collect tolls as fast as possible in the morning with numerous counters opened, only to be caught in the jam immediately after exiting.
I feel annoyed and really felt like a sucker everytime i use this toll.
My opinion is improve the traffic first before you even bother to come up with how fast you wanna collect your revenue.
Do you even have the right to collect tolls if you have not even solve the traffic woes???
why reinvent the wheel with all the hassle and restrictions? this is no tech at all.
just follow what singapore has been using for the last 10, 20 years. dont need gates, just drive pass the gantry at normal driving speed.
or are we just having too much ego to follow our neighbour?
Those rfid people better find the solution fast for that thing what you stick on or just modified the smart tag to go fast a few second and long range detection
I call TnG this afternoon, they told me, its no more Public sticker for reg. Pls advice, i need 2 sticker.
Don’t they work while being stuck on the windscreen inside the car or in the bumper?
Many gated communities use rfid tags like this.
1. Vandals and simply evil-idiot kids in the neighbourhood will peel them off…
2. And in an accident where the headlight is damaged, it may even get damaged and/or disappear.
3. And we have another app taking up space on and in our phones…
The funniest thing ever!
(Have to stick to glass, but most likely can’t put on windshield bcoz blah blah blah…so headlamp it is.)
Wasted money on R&D, and still not the best solutions provided..must’ve been clowns & jokers doing last minute thing for the sake to launch the new system so that it seems they’re actually doing some work than none at all..
Alternatively, since soon there’s going to be a newer highways and whatnot in the making already, make the new ones with better system integration..and just abolished some of the current tolls, especially in places known to be highly congested traffic caused by the tolls in the first place..
Alamak! How lah my headlights always pecah coz i suka langgar tiang. Will it affect the rfid function?
Dubai had installed this toll system 10 years ago (SALIK) and still doing good but with less hassle to install and efficient. It seem that the one that malaysia is about to install is a dinasour. I think we are given with a cheap system which will be obsolete soon.
Basically its free-for-all after u exit the toll eg Sunway LDP and NKVE Subang, most of the time not a single officer to help direct traffic, instead the operator let we all fighting to exit see who dares and who car bigger
u all damm kow funny
Malaysia Mentality, Itchy hand….
I’m afraid people will peel off.
Can’t we follow Taiwan system, stick the RFID on the windscreen from the inside cabin?
or follow, Singapore, scan through Car registration plate?
Why the video mentioned the RFID tag cannot install behind the windshield (with tint) ?
RF can go through the windshield (tint or non-tint) without any problem, else all the car will become dead zone for your hand phone.
California started to use the RFID FasTrak toll system in 1993. Their toll is gate-less and allows the car to travel up to 100km/h. The RFID tag is also kept behind the windshield. It is a matter of selecting the right technology.
Bcoz some stupid put the glue at the wrong side,,
I’m trying hard to understand how does this RFID help in any way of reducing the traffic. What is the difference of using the Smart Tag ..when u have to also slow down and let the gate go up. You still end up slowing down.. PLEASE LA.. please look at Singapore.. ERP. Google it my dear Government. See how the ERP really eases traffic congestion. Motorist just drive as per normal (mind you..there is no slowing down) and it automatically deducts the toll. I cant see why wouldnt Malaysia adopt something like the ERP. be mindful, the same toll plazas can be used as the ERP structure with very minimal configurations. SIGH..
This is the most amazingly stupid implementation of RFID I have ever seen. Who is the idiot who thought this up.
your brader …NAJIB!
Why not use an ANPR system like they use for speed cameras? That’s what they are moving to for tolls in the UK – scans your number plate and charges your account automatically. A sticker is going to have serious durability problems.
I am one of the RFID users. 1 problem detected: on 2 occasions while driving along Guthrie Corridor Expressway, the toll gates didn’t open on time. On both occasions, had to stop nearly 5 seconds before the toll gates lifted. TNG needs to rectify this problem.
Sticker on headlamp – looks like a bad idea. Like many here who pointed out,
1.)It’s so easy for casual vandalism.
2.)Being exposed to the elements in harsh weather how long can something like a flimsy sticker last?
Please look and learn at the in-car solutions used in Singapore and elsewhere.
i would prefer build in smart tag in my car rather than this rfid. The toucn n go card can use for many things.
they put onto the headlamp due to your windscreen got tinted. your tinted disrupted the rfid frequencies
Unmark police car sticked the rfid stiker inside the wind screen. Seems worked !!. But sometimes in certain places (i think only one but dont rember where) u have to go very near to the bar.
Registered 3 cars for the installation but only 1 detachable.
Used at Kesas and LDP, 8 out of 10 times failed. Only NPE achieved 100%.
Decided to revert back to Smartag:(
no such word as revert back, just revert.
I got mine installed at the front windscreen on the passenger side. It definitely looks better to install at that spot.
1. TnG e-wallet which link with RFID should have the option for auto reload like smart tag. If not, it is not perfect system. Just imagine when one need to travel all the way from Perlis to Johor.
2. Does the RFID sticker work on head lamp which already been fitted with a plastic film protection.
Did you mention need to bring driver’s license copy, vehicle registration? I walked in the mall just to find out need these….
