Announced last month, UMW Toyota Motor has officially launched the 2021 Toyota Yaris facelift in the country. The car was introduced via a digital presentation earlier this evening, alongside the 2021 Vios facelift, GR Yaris and Vios GR-S.
As before, three variants are available for the Yaris. The base 1.5J is priced at RM70,940, while the 1.5E goes for RM80,380, and the range-topping 1.5G for RM84,808, all on-the-road without insurance. The final prices are lower than that estimated last month (RM71,688 for the J, RM80,591 for the E and RM85,587 for the G).
Exterior-wise, the refresh introduces a new front bumper, which provides the car with a bolder and wider visual stance. The grille and the lower intake are now fused into one, and the headlamps are now triple bezel LED units, standard across the entire model range. LED daytime running lights and LED front fog lamps are also standard fit.
There are two different wheels, with the J variant getting a 15-inch unit (with 185/60 series tyres) while the E and G are equipped with 16-inch alloys, wrapped with 195/50 tyres. Both the E and G also get an acoustic glass windshield, and the rear lamps on these go the LED combi route.
The Yaris can also be specified with an optional Aerokit (RM2,200 for the J, RM2,500 for the E and G), which adds on front/rear bumper spoilers and two-tone side skirts to enhance the styling of the car further. On the E and G, the pack also comes with a roof spoiler, hence the higher price.
Inside, the Yaris facelift features a black interior, with fabric upholstery. Standard kit includes two 2.1A USB ports, smart keyless entry and push-start ignition, a drive mode switch (Sport/Eco) and illuminated scuff plates.
The J comes equipped with manual air-conditioning, a four-speaker radio/CD player audio system (with auxiliary and Bluetooth connectivity) and an urethane steering wheel. Moving on to the E gets you an Optitron instrument meter panel, which incorporates a 4.2-inch full colour multi-information display, and the steering wheel gets audio control switches.
The variant also comes with a seven-inch touchscreen head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. This replaces the previous 6.8-inch unit. Elsewhere, UMWT’s Vehicle Telematics System is now standard on the E and G variants, while an optional wireless charger (RM490) is available for all Yaris models, placed in the centre console box.
The G bumps up the presentation with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob, and other unique features for the variant include single-zone automatic air conditioning and an electrochromic rear view mirror, the latter being new to the car.
There is no change to the powertrain, with the Dual VVT-i 2NR-FE 1.5 litre engine continuing to deliver 107 PS at 6,000 rpm and 140 Nm at 4,200 rpm. Likewise, the choice of the paired transmission, which is a CVT with a seven-speed Shiftmatic mode.
The big news is the addition of Toyota Safety Sense, which adds on safety and driver-assist kit to the car. Available on the E and G, the suite consists of a pre-collision system (PCS) with autonomous emergency braking and lane departure alert (LDA), which works from speeds of 50 km/h on to help avoid unintended lane changes.
Also on are a blind spot monitor with rear cross traffic alert and a 3D 360-degree panoramic view monitor, on top of the usual VSC, hill-start assist control and seven airbags. Additionally, the E and G come fitted with a front digital video recorder.
Three exterior colours are avuilable for the Yaris facelift – Red Mica Metallic, Platinum White Pearl and Silver Metallic, with the Citrus Mica Metallic that was the pre-facelift’s hero colour being dropped from the palette.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Still fugly. That cencorot look is so obvious…..
millions of Myvi drivers out there.. when we upgrade is whether this RM80K Toyota Yaris or Proton X50… So which car u recommend?
(like) Toyota Yaris.
(dislike) Proton X50
(Like) City hatchback
(Dislike) Yaris Hatchback
Anytime Yaris Hatchback
Pipu want four doors yaris GR turbo, not this ugly underpower variant.
Pent up demand for pocket rocket minicar in Bolehland since demise of 208GTI, Polo GTI & Fiesta ST … Proton Iriz 1.5T R3 204PS coming soon.
Yes, people want. But people also cannot afford. You can probably buy a used GTR for that money.
The GR Yaris isn’t a warmed up hot hatch.
But at least ASEAN Yaris Hatchback facelift still looks better than fish Yaris Hatch
Bro, you should try GR Yaris. Comes with 6 speed manual with 4 wheels drive and fantastic engine.
RM71k? better top up & get high-riding crossover Proton x50. jalan lobang2, hujan naik banjir… takla gubra.
family who has a SUV at home, usually has a sedan too
Nice
Completely agree. Better buy now & save sst…
Agreed. Toyota got plenty of stock because nobody buys
Nobody buys? Hahaha. What a joke.
Beauty Design
many in big dilemma to choose btw Toyota Yaris and Proton X50..
Toyota Yaris – Babe magnet + toyota badge.
Proton X50 – Volvo engine + high specs
Minor mistake bro.
It should be
“Toyota Yaris – babe magnet, dual vvti, 7 speed, high spec, high technology, toyota badge, reliability”
Now, that’s really correct.
Yaris, mak mertua pon suka… x50 lagik suka.
X50 is good for tall ride, at compromise of fuel consumption at 10km/l
Yaris is good for cornering, at compromise of the fun of owning a turbo trend
Both accelerate at similar speed. For spirited drive, NA is better, high rpm pickup sport mode fun.
Turbo is comfortable for low rpm drive due to higher output at lower rpm.
Ideally, just buy 2 for 1 household. Husband and wife, different car ma
Don’t know which Yaris you drove, but the one we have is a dog. Numb steering, hopeless tyres, softly sprung, good cornering it does not make. Comfy yes, corner? Nope.
I won’t say it’s fast either …lol.
An old satria would run rings around the Yaris.
But it does average 14km/l and if driven carefully when the moon, sun and planets and all the traffic lights line up, you can do 19km/l
That is a HUGE difference from 10km/l
Don’t know which yaris you drove.
The NR dual vvti 7cvt do me 15.5km/L for my subang-kl drive.
It has strong steering, grip for cornering than my brother’s City and aunties jazz.
Both jazz and city also reasonably stable, fuel economy.
10km/L better drive a Camry.
If cornering is not good enough with Yaris, one is already driving way too fast beyond regulated speed, without skill. Vios GR can conquer cornering if you want an easy grippy and safe cornering, GR suspension, dampers, seats, and GR sport rim 205R17.
Beautiful,
Toyota Yaris VS Honda City Hatchback
Very sporty air-cooler grille
Very worthy
Value buy
Good RV with best reliable
Park it beside the TNGA GR Yaris and you can tell so obvious how shortchanged we Asean got compared to rest of the world.
Agree..way better to get more superior Iriz. Period
Both Iriz and Yaris looks good. But now it is people choice now. Not for you to decide
at 71k with all the safety features, this is worth it!!
Boss, need to up to get all the safety spec. 71k only get half of it.
Nice design.save fuel.apple car play.good safety.comfort drive.all checked.finally LED headlamp for all.what a steal
so it’s still fabic seats even for the G variant? dont understand why UMT is devaluing the Yaris.
Not really. Yaris G variant got leather seat while E and J gets fabric seat
Based on the specification sheet as well as that on the company’s website, seat upholstery is listed as fabric across the three-variant Yaris range. Only the Vios 1.5G gets leather upholstery.
No great loss. I will take fabric anytime over cheap leather or pleather. Especially in this climate.
And yes, it is fabric for all the Yaris lineup.
Anthony, I thought the G spec comes with rear disc brakes?
Yeah, it does. Missed keying that one in. Added to spec breakdown. Thanks for the spot!
How is this pretty? It’s ugly though
Got mine last dec. Superb fuel economy. But at the sacrifice of performance. Its got speed limiter at 178kph. And the Sports button will give you the same figure.Forget it if you are tailing a Bezza.
Lots of features. But one thing that gets my nerves, cant switch off the headlights. Urgh…there is no Off button. Plus point is very comfy.
