Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The Denza D9 is a seven-seat D-segment electric MPV launched in Malaysia in 2025. It suits families and chauffeur-driven buyers who want an EV with proper three-row seating, rather than an SUV. Prices start from RM299,000 for the Advanced FWD, with the more powerful Premium AWD at the top of the range.

D9 in 2026 — what's new

For 2026, the Malaysian D9 range comprises the Advanced FWD and Premium AWD. China’s 2026 D9 brings an all-new interior, passenger and rear screens, and claims of up to 800 km CLTC range with Flash Charging. A Chinese-market EV leak also points to a new grille and higher outputs. These 2026 changes are not confirmed for the Malaysian D9 range.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should choose the RM299,000 Advanced FWD. Its 103.36 kWh battery delivers the longer quoted 520 km range, it has 308 hp and still seats seven. The RM355,000 Premium AWD adds a second motor for 369 hp and all-wheel drive, but its quoted range falls to 490 km. The RM56,000 gap is substantial; pay it only if AWD traction and the extra 61 hp matter more than range. On paper, the extra spend buys drivetrain performance rather than a stated equipment advantage.

Verdict

The D9 has established itself as a strong-selling electric MPV, with more than 700 units registered in the review period, ahead of the Zeekr 009 and Xpeng X9. It is not the cheap route into an EV MPV: the BYD M6, Maxus MIFA 9 and Xpeng X9 start for less. Still, the Advanced FWD pairs seven seats with a 103.36 kWh battery and 520 km quoted range, while the Premium gives buyers a proper AWD alternative.
