Nurburgring: 1.0 bar boosted E30 chases Carrera GT

Another track video for fans of in-car camera recordings from fast cars on tracks. This BMW E30 was just minding it’s own business on the Nurburgring, until a yellow Porsche Carrera GT passes it. The E30 decides to give chase… why? Because it can I suppose. The Carrera GT obviously has more power than the E30, however it looks to me that the E30 has the better driver.

Nahh….. I dont think that E30 can ever catch up with Carrera GT.

If you guys notice, the Porche driver were "just playing" with the brakes & went off the racing line. But when he's serious, he pushed the car & it just went away from E30.

GT has the best handling and power, unfortunately a little bit kiasi driver.

E30 has a devil heart driver but a little low power and not so good handling car.

Well, since overtaking at the Ring is normally done on the left (like the rest of the European roads), it might just be that the CGT driver careful about traffic. It was after all a normal day at the Ring with bikes and other cars joyriding!

The carrera GT is one of the fastest cars on earth on any race track. In fact, in many recent tests it has proven to be quicker than the Enzo.

is it me or that they dont have to wear helmets in the nurburgring? the E30 driver was visibly just wearing a cap.

The Nurburgring Nordschleife is just like a public toll road. Anybody can roll up, in anything, pay the fee, and go.

The Bimmer driver should equiped his car more stickers, as Initial D arcade players say: More stickers, more horsepower! :)

    Anyway, it's a good vid!

I feel like I'm playing Grand Turismo! LOL!

Anyway, the CGT could just, well, playing around with the Bimmer. CGT is a wild beast. Not many people could tame the power that easily. Probably that's why the Bimmer is catching up at the corners. You could still handle the power of a 1.0 bar sedan. But try to do the same in a 600+hp with a huge amount of torque. Hehehe.

But still, that Bimmer do deserve the applause.

Oh yes, ularsawa, you don't have to wear crash helmet at the Nordschleife. Just don't forget to buckle up though. ;)

Haha! I spotted an old Volvo in there towards the end! There's nothing wrong with the Porche driver's racing line, he's just being very cautious and is worried that the BMW will plough into him during some corners; that's why he went slightly off. Good video, the chase's entertaining.

Reminds me of those old "Getaway in Stockholm" videos for entertainment…

As much as I would comment the e30 pilot for being fairly good and persistant, the GT is just toying with him. Of course he would, he has nothign to prove. On some sections, the GT was just leaving the E30 for dead.

No doubt that in some of the later corners which were the high speed sections (there was one which was winding left) the Carrera GT did slow down for a little while to let the E30 catch up but nevertheless the E30 did show some superior power in some corners and some straights sometimes nearly rear ending the GT.

The GT probably took some of the corners wide because of tire grip loss or under-steering. I have to applaud the E30 either way because some straights ended too soon before it could fully utilize the peak torque that its engine and twin turbos were chucking out.

All in all bravo for proving that a 22 year old chassis can still run with the big guns of today just with a little power, torque and a really skillful driver.

the video camera seems like holding by some one, not hooked on the car, unless i'm wrong because i see the video quite stable.

there's no evidence of that CGT driver is poor or has he really pushed the car?

some times if i know some one chasing hard behind me (in games la) but still can't get near to me, i'll drive slower so that they have chance to catch up.

the E30 still looks great till today. Maybe Ptoton should turn around their buseness model & convert its biz to producing great replicas of great & popular cars which r no more in production as in M'sia because of Proton we cannot never afford such cars so they might as well make up for it & make a profit from it. The outdated designs & technology still is miles better than what Proton has now & what they can produce even 20-30 years down the road from now. so pitiful …………

theres nothing wrong with the cgt racing line… he is just being very cautious, but for the bimmer, my respect goes to him cause with a 20+ yrs old chasis the car handles extremely well with the twin turbo setup… over here, those e30 with transplanted turboed engine, they can only go very fast in the straights but the balance of the car turn awry once it hits corners…

i think it would be a bit hard for THAT e30 to be racing around the ring, considering the plates on the car are Australian plates. never the less, a good video indeed.

  • I agree that the Porsche Carrera GT is one of the fastest street production cars out there, but it also require a lot of skill to explore it's full potential. Though I am not lucky enough to drive one, I heard that the tail can get out real quick if you are not careful. Maybe the Porsche driver was just playing around, but I have to admit that the M3 driver possesses a lot of skill to keep up with one of the fastest production cars out there, with a 20+ year old car. :)

My e30 325 has a SR20det with 300+ bhp and i leave alot of Porches and Ferrari’s for dead on the Genting Trail. Straight line/top speed i cant compete as my car gets a bit scary but through the corners at the hands of a good driver very few cars can catch me..
A slow car at the hands of a good driver is always going to be more competative than a fast car at the hands of a bad driver
