You’ve already read about it here on this blog, and now you can buy it in the showrooms. The Focus TDCi is now officially part of the Sime Darby Auto ConneXion line-up here in Malaysia and it goes for RM128,888.
The 2.0 litre Ford Duratorq engine makes 134 horsepower and a class-leading 320Nm of torque, which beats the Peugeot 308 Turbo’s previous class-leading 240Nm figures. The 2.0 TDCi’s 320Nm can also be boosted 20Nm up to a total of 340Nm for a short period of 8 seconds, although the ECU manages this feature automatically. There’s no “push to pass” button. The Pug does have more horsepower of course.
It’s not an apple to apple comparison anyway since one is turbodiesel while the other is a turbo direct injection petrol engine. The 308 has a quicker 0-100km/h acceleration time of 9.3 seconds versus 9.8 seconds for the Focus.
And of course, the other star feature is the nice 6-speed Powershift transmission, which is a twin clutch transmission. Shifts quicker and moves power more efficiently to the wheels than a slushbox automatic. Combined with the inherent frugality of a diesel engine, Ford pegs the Focus TDCi’s fuel consumption at just 5.8 litres per 100km on the combined urban and extra urban cycle!
Other features include a leather interior, a 6-CD changer with MP3 support, auto up/down power window controls for all four windows, dual airbags, ABS brakes, ESP stability control and TCS traction control. That ESP is a must have feature in a car that makes so much torque at a low rev count as a mid corner surge in torque from an over-eager right foot without the aid of stability control in keeping the car true to its line could result in hefty repair bills.
Only two colours are available – Diamond White or Panther Black. Only the hatchback body is available and it is a CBU from Philippines. The Diamond White car you see above has been kitted up with optional racing stripes which are an RM600 option. For the Panther Black car, the racing stripes are light silver in colour instead of blue. The stickers on the side of the car come standard.
We’ve already reported our first impressions of the car on a short drive, but we’ll be back sometime next month with a full test drive report including fuel consumption – how much does the car really consume on an average Malaysian driving cycle? Look after the jump for a nice hi-res gallery of the new Focus TDCi.

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
cool!!the price is just right!!!Paul, wat's the pros n cons of diesel engines compared to petrol??
I’ve gone through a test drive almost get crazy every time when the RPM up to 2000, extremely powerful engine with this price of diesel pasenger vehicle Focus is the best!!!!!!!!
the all-new model will be launched next year. What is the relevance of launching this model now?
Such a strong package, I'm tempted myself!
this is the car as an alternative to civic and altis…but looking at interior and exterior, it still cannot beat civic for the price givennn
Alaaaaaa, most Malaysians still stick to Honda and Toyota la, despite this is so tempting.
Our car industry is doomed to Japs anyway.
consumer today has a CHOICE ……
jappy mentality will be HISTROY soon…..
Make more SC particularly in East coast malaysia, and it makes it easier for other people to buy and service it.
i like this car..just a bit worry about its reliability..how about spare parts prices?
alpha,
diesel drink lesser fuel than petrol engine. create more torque. naah..u can find out abt diesel advantages at wikipedia.
nway, this car alreayd bcome one of my fav since it's a hatchback car.
Yup, priced at just right. Focus TDCi is priced around £21,702 – £23,234 in UK. But wait, this is diesel..
Another things, the Fiesta should be priced at around RM87k..good competitor to HCity and TVios.
Paul, if you somehow read this,
I would really like more interior pictures of the focus; back seats (leg room, head room and etc), boot space, glove box and others you think is relevant (you are the expert after all)
thanks.
Good Good, but I much prefer the ford fiesta 1.6TDCI econetic with Powershift gearbox. hehe
Ali: ok will take note to snap those when we get the tdci again for a test drive.
130 grand for this is really really tempting. given the amount of kit it offers, i think its a really good buy. besides, that white paint job wit the blue stripes is juz so gud lookin. doesnt look a diesel at all, instead it looks like a baby ST. but pulltea is rite though, the new focus is gonna be launched very very soon, kinda pointless of buying this now.
i seriously like the way it looks, n wouldnt mind buying one if i can afford it.
one question though paul, does it have pedal shifters on the steering wheel, or is it juz the gear knob??
hopefully will get to test drive the TDCi this coming Thursday… but now also tempted by smaller brother Fiesta…. cheaper and may be just as good for KL use…
but I cannot resist the Focus' combined cycle FC figure of 5.8l per 100km… it will mean that I will only need to refuel about ONCE EVERY 2 WEEKS… as my mileage is about 450km a week…. that really is incredible!!! Not to mention cheaper diesel price than the current RON95 or 97….
Frugal as Civic Hybrid but more powerful than a normal civic…got rear aircon some more, shame on u Stream
good times coming?
Good pricing strategy in Malaysia for 2.0 L engine with huge tork. 320 Nm tork and 134 hp. In China, USA, UK of coz sell much lower bcoz you can get better car at very reasonable price. Plus in Malaysia our tax structure insane. But good job Sime Darby for bring Ford Focus in Malaysia. I think people will think twice to buy Honda Civic, Toyota Altis and Etc bcoz this car sell like hot cake in USA, Europe and etc. Plus Jeremy of Top Gear say Ford Focus is good choice and worth buying car. Its also have triptonic gear box. But unfortunately Ford Malaysia lack no of SC in Malaysia. Also spare part price high compare to other brand. Hopefully Sime Darby lower spare part price and if can, lower the price to less than RM 100 k to compete with new Kia Forte 2.0
320Nm from idle, 1 week in this car and all other cars in malayisa will feel like a trishaw.
Plus the focus has been consistently best all rounder in UK
What an engine! This is what u call engine! Fully cluttered. Others are just power'house'. Neat.
I was tempted but sadly the Focus unlike other European cars in Malaysia has a lap belt in the middle back seat which compromises the safety of the person sitting there.
I applaud SDAC for bringing in the Focus TDCi but I value safety features so it's back to the Peugeot 308 for me.
Toyota and Honda can dig their own graves now… overpriced cars with virtually no features.
With this Focus, u can increase the power/torque by installing a piggyback box between engine and ECU. I'm using one on my Triton and boy… power delivery is so smooth and acceleration to 175kph is faultless.
5.8L/100km… then if the tank holds ~50L = 862km???
Arghhhhh I'm dreamin' wake me up please…. No wonder gov discourage diesel vehicle.. they will save subsidize (aka bail out money)
Fuel tank is 55l, but normally u will get the yellow light light up at 45l. then we r looking at at least 800km before refueling .. great!
The Audi A6 (or was it A8) diesel as played out in Top Gear can last up to 1000km+. The power of diesel!
Though the cat con replacement might cost you a bomb.
Cheap fuel cost no doubt is good but u must think of future maintenance cost as well esp. with Msian diesel-run the car for few years and see!
I notice nobody talking about bad cabin insulation and noise and vibration reduction in Focus.
sweet….will this be a start for the collapse of jap car empire in malaysia?
hmm why is the HP figures so low compared to BMW's 320d?
Acceleration times nothing great to speak of…comparable to any normal N/A 2.0 engine… Perhaps the only good thing is the fuel efficiency?
ya,somehow i also worry about our diesel quality..will it affected the engine in long run..
Paul : Is the car fitted with Ford EasyFuel to prevent wrong filling of petrol?
For those who wanna see abit more of the car's interior, check out our short test drive story which has more photos.
http://paultan.org/2010/02/02/ford-focus-2-0-tdci…
my cash will still be given to pug 308 given an option.. it's simply too pricey for a ford and its interior is nothing spectacular (better word to boring) based on my humble opinion…
thx paul
btw does thailand have euro 4 diesel?
If and only if I'm still looking for a sedan/hatchback car .. this surely will be in my number one list.. but as a family man, I guess I need to go for a car with more than 5 seaters..

And Mazda2 also coming soon… heard the basic spec is below RM80k.
Will you still choose the boring TVios and HCity or opt for some fresh..?
there still ppl who r skeptic about diesel…
i don think it will be good sell….talk about comparing hp…duh…its about torque la…
xatomic, modern diesels really deliver in "real world" performance, even if the stats aren't spectacular. In gear acceleration, effortless pick up and of course, fuel consumtption, are highlights if you compare to a similar sized petrol unit. You have to experience it to believe!
Nahhhhh, this car will never sell well in M'sia.
It will still sell a few units here and there, but will not make a big impact here.
New Generation Diesel is the way to go.
TQ Sime Darby for having the foresight to bring in these diesels. Now pls can we have it in a sedan version?
if only sime darby still hv Projet… they could hv come out with premium diesel (Euro4 spec) as part of its product, indirectly can support its sales of BMW 320d (AutoBavaria), and now the Focus TDCi (SimeAutoConnexion)…
but Projet is no longer around and all hv become Shell… may be Shell needs to come out with Diesel V-Power soon…
Diesel engine really drive me happy, it is the most efficient engine in the world compare to petrol. It is great that Ford bring in the diesel hatchback.
Where is the SDAC showroom in JB? Last time, the one in front of Danga Bay and Minsin along Pasir Gudang highway already closed down.
How to sell cars without showroom?

Yeap, 100% agreed….those who had never experience driving a modern diesel should go for a test drive, u will be grinning from ear to ears wt performance (more like shove!) plus less fuel bills….where can u get big power plus low fuel consumption??
buying this car just to save fuel costs is retarded.
better to buy a kia forte 2.0 at rm 94k. u save over 30k.
assume the focus saves u rm 200 a month on fuel costs.
that comes to rm 2400 savings per year.
u would need more than 10 years to make up the difference in price.
bcos frankly, petrol price in malaysia is not that exorbitant.

This car is for those looking for power/high performance/handling minus the high fuel bills. Great alternative to Lancer/Civic/Altis…
Kia Forte is not an equal measure to this car…..!
You need to measure it with the likes of Civic 2.0, Lancer GT, VW tsi or the same class.
With a dual clutch gearbox, you’ll have to compare it to the DSGs on the VW and Audi’s and its sharing with Volvo S40 and V50….. sorry Kia, you’re too far away from this field.
Its in a different class, given also the WRC pedigree it had from the Focus I of the 90s. A VW GTi owner attests that the performance of this car is 80% of the VW Gti at 60% of the price. It is in fact a 180k car priced at 130k. Woohoo… what a saving?
I’ve tried it and what a ride. Its awesome and speed bumps makes no difference to the suspension. The torque at 320Nm is way beyond any petrol engine.
As for diesel, I’m a diesel die hard. Not for the fact that 70% of cars in Europe are diesel driven, but I also have 3 cars including a BMW sourced engined LR TD5 and a Navara which is diesel performance boosted to 200hp. Apart from the engine having a life roughly 4 times that of petrol engines, its also environmentally cleaner.
And my personal consideration of any MBenz, must be a CDi, and a BMW must be a 320d or 530d…. No petrol engine for me please.
im a very proud, happy owner of focus tdci powershiff!!! The car are awesome!!
This car is one of my favorite, just beware that parts might be expensive. Thinking about getting one and put unichip to push the bhp up to 160+ with 400nm…
If the parts is too expensive, I am going to wait and see; Another concern, how about the maintenance cost?
Although we are Euro 2 now, but I am still skeptic about M'sia diesel… if the cat breaks, I want to know how much to repair!
The price is fair and the car spec brilliantly, hopefully Sime Darby Auto ConneXion will lower the parts' price, or this car will have no 2nd hand value!
Hi Choon
wonder you have any updates on the maintenance cost and spare parts of this Focus TDCi? I have tested drove the car, it has awesome torque that give serious kick, give ‘little’ Golf GTI driving feel, really luv it but as you put it rightly.. spare parts and maintenance cost are concerns..
really alternative to civic, altis!

no one buys a car just to save fuel alone… it s a combination of factors. Some tangible and some intangible. Let's put it this way, based on your assumption, only those people buying Kia or Proton or Perodua are not RETARDED, and the rest can be considered as RETARDED (by your definition) because they buy cars that are taxed exorbitantly… be it Merc, BMW, Audi, Lexus, Porsche, the usual Jap brands etc etc
by the way, for your info, it still doesnt make sense to buy a Kia Forte, because a Hyundai i10 (at half the price of Kia Forte) can still get you from A to B, right? Hence this suggests that the point you are trying to make may be coming from someone that is also RETARDED…
the Kia Forte is good value but that doesnt mean it is as good as the Focus in some areas like ride and handling… and obviously the Kia doesnt come with diesel engine and dual-clutch gearbox… that may already make up half of the 30k diff….
last year i drove a manual transmission turbodiesel pug 308 during a 2-day roadtrip in UK. since it's manual, the pick-up is damn impressive and the FC is not bad either.
but this Focus does not have manual transmission, even though the hp and torque figures look tempting, not sure if it would be as fun of a drive as the manual pug 308 turbodiesel.
i doubt it would, manual tranny rulezz…
Don’t trust all the Ford Sime Darby says. My daughter bought a Ford Focus 1.8 Ghia. Ford Service in PJ detected the problem with rear wheel bearing within 3 years warranty period and at less than 30000 KM mileage mind you.
The service centre kept ding-donging givining us the run around that spare parts were not available. In the meantime the front bearing also became faulty and drive shaft too. The latter were replace leaving the r faulty ear wheel bearing still unchanges. Now that the wheel is almost ceasing we called for attention. Then all of asudden Ford Serice PJ fish out records that they have changed all bearings. Someone in Ford is lying and cheating customers..Beware. So go for Toyota who may be more honest. I am wondering if a Police report will help.
I feel sorry for what happened to your daughter and her Ford, but I’d just like to point out that I’ve also seen and heard similar horror stories from Toyota owners as well. It really comes down to the people behind the brand, not the brand itself.
I hope you managed to fix the issue, though! Bearing and drive shaft problems can be very dangerous if left unchecked.
Dear all,
Where can i find the spare part for my Focus TDCI diesel (2011), beside order from Autoconnexion , I need help….urgent
habis la lu, hahahah, you believe in SDAC? hahahahaahah
naza or proton is better
I notice this Focus TDCI Turbodiesel has 320Nm torque and 134 horsepower. Now, 320Nm torque is MASSIVE. However, the 0-100km/h acceleration only registers 9.8 seconds? Why is that? With that amount of torque I would suspect the acceleration to be below 9.0 seconds, probably in the region of 8.5 seconds or lower. Any explanation to this?
