Following yesterday’s news on Mazda increasing the Skyactiv engine production, the Japanese carmaker has announced that the production of the CX-5 will be increased as well.
This is the second time that Mazda has raised its figures. Previously, the company announced that production was to increase from 160,000 to 200,000 units by August 2012. Now, the carmaker has revised the number to 240,000 units per year.
The expansion from Ujina Plant No. 2 to also include Ujina Plant No. 1 makes it possible. Upgrades to the assembly line are based on Mazda’s Monotsukuri Innovation, which aims to achieve economies of scale and the flexibility to swiftly respond to changes in market trends. It is a structural reform project that changed the way Mazda makes cars.
Already, Mazda has surpassed initial estimates. CX-5 orders have now reached approximately 24,000 units in Japan. It is more than doubled the annual domestic sales target in four and a half months from the start of sales. The CX-5 is proving to be very popular across the globe.

Yes, it is good; test drove.
Well specced.
Most Jap SUV, be it 5- or 7-seater, has 2 to 4 airbags only, mostly without ESP. This one is unic.
The news comes too late to me. I was tired of waiting for my CX-5. I placed a booking for it and the waiting period was 4-7 months. In the end, I cancelled my booking and went for Peugeot 508 instead.
508 is the car I’m already driving now. I’m sure I’d still be waiting for my CX-5 had I not cancelled the booking.
4-7 months?!
i will do the same if i ware u.
SUV of the year…

see how the American stretch test it..
LOL just 1 single model from Mazda already outcome the whole production of Proton for 2 years.
can’t decide to go for cx-5 or sportage….but Skyactive tech is really appealing…..
This is good news. I really hope that Mazda is back in the black and does well.
So that is 20k units per month. In Australia, CX-5 is the best SUV seller. 1400 CX-5 sold for the first month and now nearly 2000 rolled into new homes in June. I found this car trendy and practical. However, not much guts from the petrol engine, but it comes alive around corners when you play with the gears. When driving spiritedly in the mountains, I managed to get around 8 litres per 100km. My only queries are the small fuel tank (700km), the upshift nature of the gearbox and the thin sheet metal. Sportage? No match for the drivabilty of the CX-5.
Did Bermaz have a showroom in labuan? Looking forward to test drive it.
Test drove the unit and I am impressed comparing to relative competitor like CRV, ASX, Tucson. I do agree however there is a lack of torgue at lower RPM, I wish Bermaz will bring in the 2.2L diesel.
Seems only the petrol units available in our Malaysia market.
That one you test drive is 4×4 actually,,you should ask the salesman 4×2 also and it definitely better torque at lower rpm for main road user,,very satisfied for the whole quality and driving experience. I also already booked the CX5 at bermaz showroom along federal highway. Anyway Malaysia already got 2300++ booked only for the CX5 model, Australia 8500++ booked,,,and it is hot selling model in Japan…
Nice. Kill the crv domination pleaseee
Nice. Cease the crv domination pleaseee
Damn bloody good SUV. The downsides are low torque at low RPM and small interior.
Was seriously thinking of booking it. SA told me waiting period 1 year. So I said forget it. I am not waiting 1 year for a car, no matter how good it is.
But then, the new Ranger 3.2 Wildtrak’s worse, 15 months wait list. So bad that Ford Malaysia 2 days ago stopped taking orders…
Best CrossOver, Highest engine compression ratio in its class, Japan Engine Award 2011, comparison in Malaysia’s other car model?
CRV says “Goa moh cuh Tai Loh Hoah Loi Cuah !! “
Just booked mine. Waiting list now is 1 YEAR! Insane.
I booked in may n waited n waited. Each month the sales person says the next month. Now it’s September , n yet to receive the car. According to them, car is now in the port but another 3 weeks and can’t confirm can get by October. Thinking of cancelling and going for a 508.
