man…I am still wondering until today why did I cancel my booking for the CX-5? It’s a car that looks (again it’s abt look on my part) great in showrooms and receiving tonnes of positive reviews in the internet and you-tube. But cancelled I did and instead went for an F30; well when you are on an F30, you can’t really complain wither..but that’s another car discussion.

Back to CX-5, I tested drive and finally made my booking. As far as test drive went, it was nice, CX-5 seemed too tall at first, with 19″ tyres, the steering was responsive, silent on low enginer rpm, the power? well, so so until it roared to higher rpm then you feel it “moves” decently. Since I had a CRV, CX-5 didn’t really give me that “I must buy the car” feeling. In another word, the driving was so so. It’s not something that really stand out where you would say “it is a nice car to drive”; as you would say if it is a Q5 or X-3. But compared to my CRV, I didn’t have the impressive feeling.

After summing up every considerations, I was 80% psychologically convinced CX-5 should be my new SUV..that was then, until the “cheated” feeling came later when they said if you wish to have one with 19″ tyre then pay RM2.k more..and that strike me as a matter of principle which happens sometime.

So I cancelled. It turns out now a blessing in disguise. And when I see a CX-5 on the road now, especially from behind, even with the 17″ tyre it is still a bloody tall car. But to say it is a beauty in the SUV class, I can’t get myself to say that. The sun roof, the bose sound system, built in GPS, skyactive engine, all these make the car a very practical one…but I still do find the dasboard design as boring, it’s so 90s sort of design, non futuristic. The rear lamp…the more I look now, the more glad that I cancelled my booking.

So if you line up CX-5 with other SUV, it is comparable, it certainly can win your vote. If you like it, I do understand. But to a fussy chap like me, well, can’t say I don’t like CX-5, it was in my shopping list after all, just that there are other cars to buy too…

BTW, I do like the CX-5 pic posted in this article above.

Bro, you are right, it is more fair to compare to another SUVs. But used harrier bro, say a 2 years old one, harrier would win hands down, the specs are just different. Harrier is quite a luxury bigger SUV.

CX-5 should be compared to CRV, Tucson, Sportage, Vitara, Captiva or perhaps Tiguan (though higher price range). I think CX-5 can easily be in top 3 of its range.

my wife finally received her CX5 after 6 months wait …… what i can say- it’s worth a wait… upgrading herself from hatchback to SUV is another career milestone & of course personal satisfaction (as we work hard to finance our lives since we dont come from golden-spoon family). After 1 month ride, i’m glad we chose CX5 over CRV, 3008 & ASX. The most glaring significant is in the pitstop to gas station. So far yet to achieve the claimed 6.9l/100 but still – average is 7.9l/100! better than some car FC :)

  • I am interested to save money and dream to own this CX-5 in the future. As See Ex V commented, 7.9L/100 is acceptable for this big machine. Do you have any idea how much is the tyre price per piece based on recent pricing if you would to replace it?

Mind to share why you chose this SUV against other SUV that you mention?

Adam, when i booked CX5 for my wife (in mid2012), i wish they have options (like in some countries) for 17″ tyres coz i know the price for 19″ would cost me bombs when its due. Thank god, couple months after that only 17″ was made available and those earlier bookings would have options. In return of downgrading to 17″, got 1k cash and free 2k value tinting. Some people may prefer 19″ but to me 17″ just look fine & in the long run, it would not burn 1k for each tyre to my tiny pocket.
Why did i choose CX5? After intensive readings, showroom visits, testdrive (demo sales car and colleagues/relatives’ car), CX5 gave me the overall satisfaction in terms of overall owning & driving experience. No offense to all 3 other SUVs, in summary:
    – current CRV is nearing end of its generation cycle, 5speeds with 5k km service interval
    – ASX is more like stationwagon, not so much SUV (very own personal view)
    – 3008- i had bad experience with bluebox service (previous car) & pug resale value (i chose to ignore this point before but it haunted me back when i tried to sell…. Ouchh it hurts me kow2)…

I apologise in advance… All are my personal views only….

Agreed come to think of it 17″ is fine. In my case there was no such offer of rebate when they changed from 19″ to 17″. Arrogance was the word, knowing that the car sell like hot car and waiting period is long. Coupled with certain doubts, that was enough for me to cancel. After that I went to book B200, I cancelled again, that time around, I simply changed my mind. It occurs that personal choice should be respected.

CRV 2013 model had been sold elsewhere, don’t know why Honda Malaysia is still selling the older 5 years old model. I have never owned a Mazda but as far Honda is concerned, they give you the least maintenance problem, problem true for all Japanese cars. I also had a pug once and truly horrible expereince, I think that series was poorly engineered. The only good thing about it was its fantastic leather seats and the collapsible roof. But the car driving was crap. The gearbox faulty. Since then I am phobia of anything French……..

Nothing to apologise bro, what we post is mostly personal view and experience or perception on the car at that point in time. If we disagree then we can say so and state our reasons as to why we don’t agree, it is the rule of adult discussion. That’s my take. Have a nice day.

Bro, ur Mz6 is a 2.5 while cx-5 is a newer and smaller 2.0 engine.
I have a Mz3 2.0 and i find it difficult to hit 8L/100km, maybe coz i drive to KL and facing jams everyday.
Looking forward to the new Mz6 though, but the price is gonna be ouch. Cheers.
