“The 911 is the only car you could drive on an African safari or at Le Mans, to the theatre or through New York City traffic.” – Ferry Porsche
Some cars just never stop evolving, and surely, the Porsche 911 is one of them. Religiously retaining its unique rear-flat engined, RWD configuration and that iconic fastback shape since its September 1963 debut as the 901, the definitive Porsche continues to win the hearts of fans and enthusiasts the world over.
This year, it’ll have done so for exactly half a century, and the company isn’t holding back on the birthday candles. The Retro Classics show in Stuttgart is set to lead the wide variety of anniversary events, while the Porsche Museum will host four special exhibits in March: an early 911 Turbo Coupe, a 1981 911 Cabriolet study, a 1997 road-going version of the 911 GT1 and the pre-series Type 754 T7.

The museum will also celebrate ’50 years of the Porsche 911′ with a special exhibition from June to September, as well as publish an anniversary book, ‘911×911.’
An authentic 1967 911 is also set to go on a world tour over the course of this year, traversing five continents and being displayed in places like Pebble Beach, China, Goodwood, Paris and Australia, besides being in attendance at many other automobile events.
A gallery of 911s over the years, from the 1964 prototype to today’s 991 series (read our driving impressions of the Carrera 4 and 4S here), can be found below. Which is your favourite?

Hopefully Porsche will be around for many more years. Happy 50th Birthday 911.
it has got to be the 996 from 1999. I find it better than the latest 991 series.
Something wrong with the pictures.
