Mountune offers upgrades for the Focus and Fiesta ST

Ford UK has announced official power-boosting Mountune upgrades for the Focus ST and Fiesta ST hot hatches. The performance packs lift the pair’s output figures from 250 PS/340 Nm and 182 PS/240Nm to 275 PS/400 Nm and 215 PS/320 Nm respectively. Ford-loving power hungry readers, take note.

Such equipped, the 2.0 litre turbo Focus ST Mountune can get to 100 km/h in less than six seconds – more than half a second quicker than the standard car. The upgrade includes a cast alloy inlet duct, high-flow air filter element, larger alloy intercooler and unique calibration. The intercooler and inlet duct can be had in either silver or black powder coat finish.

Numbers for the Fiesta ST Mountune can be misleading, as the jumps are not quite as big as they seem. A base Fiesta ST is officially rated at 182 PS/240 Nm, but is capable of delivering up to 200 PS and 290 Nm through a standard-fit time-limited overboost feature. Ford is allowed to quote the boosted figures for the US-model five-door Fiesta ST, but regulations say otherwise in Europe.

The Fiesta ST Mountune’s 215 PS and 320 Nm of torque are measured within the 15-second-at-a-time Transient Overboost phase, which translates to a 15 PS/30 Nm upgrade. Thus, there’s a smaller gain to be had in performance – 6.7 second 0 to 100 km/h time to the standard car’s 6.9. Here, Mountune uses a re-modelled air box base with secondary inlet duct, a high-flow filter element and unique calibration.

Treated as factory-backed upgrades and available at official Ford dealers to both new and existing owners, the Mountune packages are fully compatible with standard Ford warranties. Ford UK charges £1,225 for the Focus ST Mountune upgrade, and £599 for the Fiesta ST Mountune pack.

They have some Torque Vector Control system (if I got it correctly) to help manage that.

Surprisingly very nice (tested last weekend on a small track) around corners.
