Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec unveiled in LA show

Just as we’re about the get the Veloster Turbo here, the Americans get to enjoy something meaner still. The new Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec made its debut at the LA Auto Show, and is now the ultimate version of the novel three-door sportster. It joins Hyundai’s top R-Spec line-up next to similarly badged Genesis coupe and sedan models.

Hyundai targets tuners and enthusiasts with this new variant, yet it doesn’t boast any more power than the standard Turbo. Why? The company claims the 201 hp/264 Nm 1.6 litre Turbo GDI engine is aftermarket-tunable. What it does get are unique design touches, various chassis upgrades and, you’ll love this, a lower price tag compared to the standard Turbo.

The last part is achieved by stripping out some of the base car’s standard equipment, in line with the R-Spec’s “pure driving focus.” So out goes keyless entry, push-button start, side-repeater mirrors, driver’s auto-up window, high-gloss interior cues and leather seats.

In place of all that are unique red-accented front splitter and side blades, with tiny R-Spec badging on the rear hatch. Inside, you’ll find red leatherette/fabric combination sport seats, and a short-throw B&M Racing Sport Shifter for the manual-only transmission. Bespoke R-Spec suspension and steering tuning offer dynamic enhancements too.

Also announced are new equipment for both the R-Spec and Turbo Velosters. One is Torque Vectoring Control (TVC) so it’s more exciting to drive, while the other is Active Sound Design, making the cabin sound more exciting while doing it.

So what do you think of the Hyundai Veloster Turbo R-Spec? No extra horses, even less toys, but with cooler looks, improved dynamics and a lower price. You like?

  • Pretty much like what Ford has, Torque Vectoring / Sound Symposer / Manual Gears, even the middle dash looks similar. And the trapezoid grille. Hopefully it drives as well and cheaper than the Focus ST.

I like it! Normally carmaker always bump the price with the sporty variant. Look at lexus f-sport, less equipment higher price and no performance improve at all, sport + option is just a gimmick

Hey Sam, you keep repeating that Kimchi car has so bad RV that will make people’s underwear torn. Come on. How much you can earn by selling your dirty like hell hilux and so-premium vios? If you are so damn particular in earning, don’t talk about RV. Tune your bloody Hilux to 800bhp and fight with US Truck with full load of sand and sell for a higher price.

See,this is where kimchi owners show their imaturity, and therefore, i must say that they really deserve it having to lose an arm and two legs when they sell their rotten cabbages.

I will just keep on lowering the trade in prices for kimchis, as there are so many of these sorhais lurking around town. Good news for me but bad news for the rotten cabbage owners
