Over in the US, General Motors has issued three separate recalls, the total involving more than 1.5 million vehicles sold in North America. The latest round follows on an earlier recall by GM last month involving 1.6 million vehicles.
The earlier recall was to rectify defective ignition switches, in which the use of a heavy key ring or jarring from rough roads could possibly move the switch out of its run position, thereby shutting off the engine and electrical power. The recall involves the 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5, 2003-2007 Saturn Ion as well as the 2006-2007 Cheverolet HHR, Saturn Sky and Pontiac Solstice models.
The new set of recalls involves the 2009-2014 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana to get reworked instrument panel material to meet compliance for unbelted passengers; 2013 and some 2014 Cadillac XTS models to be repaired to prevent possible brake booster corrosion that may result in overheating; and selected model year Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Traverse and Saturn Outlook vehicles to repair the wiring harness of seat-mounted side airbags.
The latest exercise comes as a result of CEO Mary Barra’s request for a comprehensive internal safety review following the ignition switch recall. The automaker says it expects to incur a cost of approximately US$300 million in the first quarter, primarily for the cost of the repairs for the three safety actions and the previously announced ignition switch recall.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Not some good news for Chevrolet in launching the upcoming Malibu here
Recall is a good service.
Respecting Customer while Acknowledge Own Design Fault.
wow…now its good.. when recall here its bad..
hahahaha
And some still thought toyota is the king of recall…. -pfffttt-
Unlike some other German car company
if recall after few hundreds thousang OK.. but after 1.5 millions.. thats way too much lah
IT’S PK TO MAKE MISTAKE, BE BOLD ENOUGH TO MAKE A RECALL AND REPLACE POTENTIALLY FAULTY PART WITH IMPROVE PART.
UNLIKE VW, CONTINUE TO SELL CARS WITH DSG7 (DEFECTIVE GEARBOX) TO MALAYSIAN, AND REPLICATE THE PROBLEM IN MALAYSIA. CHANGE CLUTCH PACK, CHANGE MECHATONIC ….NOT SOLVING PROBLEM AND CHANGE THE SAME PART OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
IN THE FIRST CASE WHY SELL A LEMON CAR TO MALAYSIA? PERHAPS THEY CAN ANSWER US.
GM admitted to causing something like 12-13 deaths as a result of the faulty ignitions, but a recent independent company has linked it to more like 303 deaths. If true, this is far worse than the faulty DSG imho.
This is no where near as bad as toyota’s sticky pedal issue.
Whoops, I mean Toyota’s sticky pedal issue is no where near as bad as this.
GM was somehow – the magic hand behind Toyota recall several years back. in hope that Toyota status as No.1 car maker in USA will return to America’s Big Three again.
now karma is coming back to them after all and hard to avoid since the legislation had changed. if it applies to toyota, it will apply to any car manufacturer as well – GM not secluded. Toyota is having the last laugh.
Once a while, a Recall is good as it shows car maker takes responsibility. But too many recalls is a no no…
US$300 million = RM1 b ++, maybe just a small amount for GM.
Nothing is wrong with a recall.
But to start the recall after the first case was reported some 13 years ago, now THAT is something to ponder.
GM is the last car manufacturer that will ever earn my money.
GM doesn’t need your money, heck even VW doesn’t need your money. The Chinese are buying sheet loads of Chevrolets, Buicks and VWs, this is the only market that matters to them, without China, GM and VW can crawl back to Detroit and Wolfsburg to die a painful death.
Unlucky for the North Americans( heard the recall is growing out of proportion) but not going to affect us here much no worries , Chevvy is sales-sulky here whether with or without recall that is why DRB gladly gives it up and hand it over to Naza
