Kia has released the first image of its all-new midsize multi-purpose vehicle, which will make its official debut at the 2014 New York International Auto Show later this month. The MPV in question should be the new Kia Carnival, or Sedona, as it’s known in selected markets.
The Korean automaker isn’t saying anything about its new people mover just yet beyond that it’s set to challenge the segment and will have the ability to carry eight passengers and luggage. The sketch offers a rakish-looking MPV, with the brand’s familiar front-end design easily identifiable.
Our spyshots reveal a side profile that tapers down slightly towards the rear of the car. The blacked out pillars give the roof a floating effect. The shoulderline also rises after the C-pillar, giving the rear quarter section of the MPV a sleeker look.
When the production version eventually arrives into the market, it’ll represent the third-gen of the type. The first-gen Kia Carnival made its debut in 1998, and was sold here – it was also marketed as a Naza-badged Ria. The second-gen Carnival/Sedona, meanwhile, has been around since 2006, so a replacement is certainly well due. More on the vehicle when New York kicks off.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
looking forward! please blow the innova, and even the estima out of the water, thanks!
What I have seen:
Increasing PRice::
Old Kia Picanto to New Kia Picanto.
Old Forte to New Cerato.
Old Optima to K5.
mostly at about 30% price increasing.
Kia Carnival CBU was RM120k range.
This new carnival, would be RM150k range.
It’s in the niche of Mazda Biante and Nissan Serena S-Hybrid, Or Toyota Noah Toyota Voxy.
Or maybe, just maybe they will price it higher to class it among the estima, and mazda 8.
The Kia Carens will go against the Serena hybrid, mazda biante etc.
If true damn thats a huge jump in pricing.
CBU Carnival is not RM 120K, CKD is RM 120K, CBU is about RM 160K.
With so many good looking Japanese & Conti MPV & huge recond market of MPV, this Carnival is DOA (Dealth On Arrival).
The design is nothing to shout about compare with it’s rival.
Lu tarak duit boleh pegi beli itu Ploton Exola mah…cakap kuat bising macam itik
De La Junk will come in any Korean post because he is full of jealousy and rage. Unable to own any car, he still waits for his Len Seng bus with resentment towards all car owners, especially Korean car owners.
Korean cars have done so well over the past 10 years that Hyundai is now No 4 is volume sales amongst 100 over car brands. Last year they sold 10 million cars.
So, can 10 million people be wrong or one pariah named De La Junk that condemns Koreans cars be right?
Poor thing U named youself De La Junk & called youself a pariah …lol
Don’t be so cruel to ownself..rofl
Who care how many Hyundai sell, Toyota is world no.1 seller, do you mean they are the best in the world ?
I have to admit, for many years I have been critical of Hyundai. I now, wholeheartedly admit, I have been wrong. I ask readers here for forgiveness. It takes a real man to admit his mistakes, and I admit, I have been jealous.
10 million? BULLSHIT!! Toyota was number one last year and they sold only 9.98 million units. Bullshit everywhere!
Finally the Kia Carnival gets the latest Kia’s design treatment.
Naza Ria 2.
Agree… they will definitely not get any old KIA Carnival owners to buy this. I got a few friends got burn badly when the Naza Ria was launched.
naza riang ria.
Just another Ugly Problematic Poor FC Korean Junk
Wow, looks amazing. Can’t wait for the unmasked version! Great job Kia! More choices for the customers in Malaysia. Price it right.
Please make sure the gearbox, the transmission and the engine is durable…many Kia Carnival and NAZA Ria went back to service center for gearbox problems. Even second hand dealer also don’t want to take this car. And please improve the FC. Spaciousness already good.
The 1st gen Ria/Carnival uses Rover V6 engine… It’s not that reliable… But well taken care examples are still roaming the streets…
This looks very promising.
I do hope they bring the Carnival back to Malaysia, the old Ria was not bad actually, yes the reliability was above average only (thanks to the fact that it used a Rover engine, and more so that Naza service never serviced the cars properly – I had one), but it was comfortable, relatively well put together, fairly well equipped for its time and very spacious. Going on long journeys with it was good.
With Kia’s new engine family, and even better quality all around, a nice CKD price of about 150k with 6 airbags, ESP and leather upholstery will be very tempting for people looking at the Serena.
a diesel version of this Carnival using the hyundai/kia fame r-series 2.2 turbodiesel as per the santa fe will solve those FC issues….at 440nm of torque, the 2.2 diesel will have no prob carrying this behemoth.
It looks very promising even with the camouflage on. Hopefully it will be able to change the public perception against the Koreans :)
Hopefully Naza Ria 2 will launch here with Reasonable price 130k-150k CKD with 2.5Sorento engine.
I just Cant put my money to get the Hybrid Serena which looks boxy like Moving Refrigerator.
aiya,The Kia Caren also didnt make it to
Asean market..Got variant of 1.6 & 2.0 petrol plus 1.7 turbodiesel for UK markets..I bet this Carnival also wont make it here..Hyundai also obsessed with their hatchbacks,SUV and Sedans only.
KIA Caren not in asia market ??
Philipine not asia ah ?
Indonesia not asia ah ?
KIA Carnival and Carens can have engines that run 50km/lt, but they will not any RV and cannot be traded in
People scared to buy korean car bcause their mind was on the road with the japs car handling servicing and repairing right from their grandfather those days hard to change their mindset
just another problematic car, just take japanese brand car,so that you will not regret for the next 5 years or so,please dont be cheated by design :)
The Naza Ria, 1 year old unit can’t even fetch RM30k
I have tried the current gen model in australia, it is a really luxuriousnfeeling, spacious and big car, surprised why its not sold here, probably too expensive, probably KIA thought its better to concentrate on Starex sales.
i hope naza rebadge this car, cheaper price
