Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase debuts in China

Making an appearance at Auto China in Beijing is the Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase, bringing the new diesel-electric powertrain to a format preferred by Chinese customers.

As with the standard hybrid, the long-wheelbase version features the 258 PS, 600 Nm 3.0 litre turbodiesel SDV6 engine as well as a 35 kW (48 PS), 170 Nm electric motor integrated into the eight-speed ZF automatic transmission. Total output stands at 340 PS at 4,000 rpm and 700 Nm from 1,500-3,000 rpm.

Fuel consumption is rated at 6.1 litres per 100 km, while carbon dioxide emissions are 169 grams per kilometre, 26% less than the base long-wheelbase TDV8. The hybrid can travel on electric power alone for 1.6 km at speeds under 48 km/h.

The powertrain is married to an aluminium body that features a 200 mm longer wheelbase than standard, adding an additional 186 mm in rear legroom. The optional executive individual rear seating package allows the rear seats to recline by as much as 17 degrees, while the front passenger seat can be slid forwards to further improve rear seat space and comfort.

Exterior changes that can be discerned through the sole image provided are limited to 21-inch wheels in a new design, as well as “Hybrid” badges behind the front wheel arches.

The Range Rover Hybrid Long Wheelbase will be open for booking worldwide next month and first deliveries to customers in China is expected to occur at the end of the year. The car will be technically identical worldwide, with only Chinese-market vehicles featuring a different exhaust system to comply with local emissions regulations.
