Peugeot will be exhibiting this Peugeot Quartz concept at their ‘home turf’ motor show in Paris next month. The Quartz is a crossover built on the company’s new EMP2 platform that also underpins the Peugeot 308. We think this design will eventually become the next Peugeot 3008.
The opening to the interior is uninhibited by a B-pillar because Peugeot says the concept’s composite structure and bonded panels save weight but provide exceptional stiffness. This allowed them to fit scissor doors to the car. It’s not a likely feature to translate to a production car though.
The interior has cues from the latest crop of Peugeot vehicles, like a small sporty steering and a meter panel that’s mounted higher and closer to the windscreen. The shape of the dashboard wraps around the driver like a cockpit. Peugeot calls this the “i-Cockpit”.
What’s under the hood is befitting of a concept car – a hybrid system that combines a 1.6 litre turbocharged four cylinder engine with two electric motors. There’s no Hybrid Air stuff here – this one’s properly done for performance.
The 1.6 litre engine is a THP 270, which means it has an output of 270 horses and 330 Nm of torque. It’s mated to a six-speed automatic. The front axle also has an 85 kW electric motor, which on deceleration can recharge a 400V battery. The rear axle has another 85 kW electric motor.
The Quartz’s hybrid system can operate in three modes – a ZEV electric mode which can cover 50 km on a single charge, a Road mode which uses the combustion engine and front electric motor, as well as a Race mode which uses the combustion engine and both electric motors.
The concept rides on a pneumatic suspension that can automatically adjust ground clearance between 300-350 mm. The system uses feedback from an optical system as well as navigation maps to read the conditions of the road ahead.

The last paragraph is huge! Sounds to me like an enhanced version of Hydractive 3 that has been used in big Citroens for a while, until Citroen stopped using it. So PSA is actually working on it again, which means big Citroens and DS cars can get it? Finally, a comfortable Citroen is possible again!

its amazing what they can churn out of a 1.6 turbo these days.
that’s more bhp/hp (but slightly less torque) than what megane rs and golf gti larger 2.0L turbocharged engine produced. will it be reliable? the tolerance must be almost non-existent.
and i wonder what the result of putting this 270bhp engine in a car as small as the 208 would be.. 0-100km/h in less than 6 seconds.. emmm..
Yup, lowprofile you are right. The Peugeot RCZ R which uses a 1.6-liter engine only managed to produce around 270bhp. Peugeot claimed that this the highest output by a 1.6liter engine around the world.
With those power my THP200 feels a little underpower
Make sure you have enough rear passenger leg room in your production car, the baggage compartment is not really that important.
If Peugeot can meet the above with that kind of power and torque with just a 1.6 liter engine, then it can sell (count me in).
