Renault Espace returns as a crossover; October debut

renault-espace-crossover-2

Renault has lifted the wraps of its new Espace – which will make its public debut at the Paris motor show early next month. This time however, things are slightly different at camp Renault as the Espace will return in the form of a crossover.

Prior to this model, the Espace has always been marketed as an MPV but the new version appears to ditch its rather boxy appearance in exchange for a more fluid style, which closely resembles the Initiale Paris concept.

Performance figures are still anyone’s guess at this point but we do know that the interior will feature a touchscreen display unit on the centre console – as pictured in an earlier spyshot. Five and seven-seater versions of the Espace will be offered.

Seems like a really upright rear pillar though, for an SUV….

But hey, Renault is making really great cars. After testing out the Megane 1.2 TCe and Clio 1.2 abroad, I am truly sold. There is really a bit of F1 in every Renault.

The proportions look all wrong… huge door, tiny window. Visibility out of the car will be poor, especially for kids (enjoy looking at the door and the sky…), or the seats will be so high that head room will be limited. What was Renault thinking?!

i don’t think the window is tiny.. it is the fact that this car is huge. correct me if i’m wrong

The car is big, yes, but kids are small. Unless you sit really high in the car, which limits head room, kids won’t see a thing out of that. But it’s a family car, there’s going to be kids in it.

    • Never question French automotive design. But in my opinion, that is one sexy family-mover!

the rear is reminiscent of the CRV. But overall its definitely a much welcomed update. Much more sportier look especially compared to the S Max. But judging from the concept looks like the 3rd row seats a gonna be bench seats.

really cool and clever design , but i feel its gonna confuse the buyer even more than the sector its in..
first half of the car is clearly an mpv with its sloping windshield , and the rear is CLEARLY an suv inspired…
its jus clever and i feel its done right…
those rims are a joke btw thy r way too big…
in europe its gonna have a million variants of diesels, when it comes here the familiar 1.6T will probably be offered…

If you’re talking about the Prince engine, not all cars from France come from the same company.

I’d expect some familiar engines from Nissan to appear in this one… Espace’s tend to have engines from Nissan, for example the 3.5 liter V6 from the 350Z.

Also, keep in mind that the Espace is huge. It competes with cars like the VW Sharan, the Toyota Estima and perhaps Alphard.

If this new Renault Espace was a child, I think the father is a Ford S-Max and the mother is the Honda CR-V (G4)… :)

    A good looking car.

  • Nice looking ppl mover but the hinge door as per previous espace reduce practicality compared to a Sharan/alhambra…guess they’re more concern on image than practicality.

a hinge door is a bane in tight mall’s parking space, very difficult to put on the kiddos on their respective childseats…not to mentioned the damage done to the next vehicle when your kids bang the door to the next car.

the rest are just plain awesome except the omission of a sliding door in my opinion.
