VIDEO: Honda Civic Type R interview video featuring large project leader Suehiro Hasshi

This new video features the forthcoming Honda Civic Type R‘s large project leader Suehiro Hasshi on his yet-to-be-launched baby. His new Type R will be the first to feature a turbocharged engine, which Honda says will put out over 280 PS to the front wheels via a six-speed manual. The engine has a 7,000 rpm redline.

There’s still some time before the car gets a world debut – in the meanwhile, the company has updated the Civic Type R concept for the upcoming Paris Motor Show with a new blue paint job.

The new Type R will ride on a new four-point adaptive damper system. There will also be a “+R” mode selectable for track driving, which adjusts the engine mapping, steering, and damper system.

Honda intends for the new Civic Type R to break the current record for the fastest front wheel drive lap time at the Nurburgring, currently held by the Renault Megane RS 275 Trophy-R with a lap time of 7 min 54.36 seconds.

this is going to be interesting.
a vtec turbo type R out from the factory, nice!
soon, there will be a lot more vtec turbo type R wannabe on our street.
vtec purists will find its hard to accept this approach at the beginning…similar to the move by bmw to replace their inline six NA with a 4 potter turbo engine

The car paultan readers & lowyat f&f forumers love to hate..

When Honda puts turbo vtec with 7000rpm limit, they say “ah, no more high-revving N/A engine! not a true type-r!!”.. and when Honda maintains the torsian beam rear suspension, they say “handling no good! handling is inferior.. not a true type-r!!”

When Suehiro Hasshi of Honda said “It has become the best of all (Type-R)”, eclipsing even the great NSX-R, that means they are very serious.

Tuners like Mugen, Spoon, J’s Racing, Feel’s, M&M etc are in fact very excited.

  • The previous and current type R engine lacking torque and outright straightline power. Honda could make an NA 2.0 engine producing 300hp, but those green NGO chaps surely will axe this engine. So, turbo is the way to go, and this will compensate for the extra safety and electronic stuff onboard.

Since Mr. Hasshi talked about emotion and sensation in the video, i hope they could make a vtec sound phasing when reaching certain rpm in the new car. Well, i-vtec is also welcomed.
