2015 Volvo XC90 bookings open – T8 plug-in hybrid to be offered, estimated pricing from RM500k-550k?

Volvo XC90

The order books for the 2015 Volvo XC90 are now open in Malaysia! The second-generation, seven-seater SUV was first revealed to the world back in August 2014 and represented the Swedish carmaker’s first major step in revamping its product lineup.

According to local Volvo dealers, the “Twin Engine” T8 plug-in hybrid has been mooted as the sole engine choice on offer while estimated pricing for the XC90 is said to range from RM500,000 to RM550,000. The first 100 units are said to be CBU ones while CKD variants are expected to arrive sometime next year. An official local introduction of the XC90 is expected to take place in August/September 2015.

To refresh your memory, the XC90 T8 comes powered by a turbocharged/supercharged 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine with 318 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Power from the combustion engine gets sent to the front wheels while an electric motor with 82 hp and 240 Nm of torque sends it all to the rear axle – effectively turning the XC90 T8 into an all-wheel drive behemoth with 400 hp and 640 Nm of torque.

Additionally, a 34 kW crankshaft-mounted starter generator (CISG) between the engine and the gearbox is featured – CISG works as a starter motor, a power generator and also adds in an extra 150 Nm of torque, if required. A 65 kW battery pack provides the juice to the aforementioned setup. An all-electric range of 40 km is possible with the 0-100 km/h done and dusted in 6.4 seconds, CO2 emissions are recorded at 59 g/km.

Apparently was told the T8s were mainly sold out in CBU form when I checked in January this year.

Not sure what is the current length of the order books, but I hope there is some form of a 400-sh k version, a T6 or something, if not they can’t survive.

Bravo new toy for the cronies.

For normal Malaysian, better stick with the Proton. The cronies won’t fall before government fall. The government won’t fall before you and me fall.

      Luckily we still have Perodua.

CBU T8 for RM550k? Nope…too expensive but if it comes in @ RM500k then it makes sense…people will compare it with the BMW X5 which retails around the same region of price.

But I agree, there needs to be a CKD T6 for just over RM400k with a bucket load of kit for Volvo to pull this model off in Bolehland. The previous gen XC90 was going around RM370k so its quite a jump in terms of pricing.

i like BMW, but the new XC90 is definitely better than the x5 (in terms of looks, interior and spec). BMW better buck up!

        500k itself is pricey.

Let’s be realistic here. I’d not pay anything more than 460k for the XC90. The thing is, Volvo is an underdog brand. Say all you want, but many don’t need a large SUV. They just want and SUV for the price.

At 500k, I’d take a lavishly equipped Macan 2.0. Sure less power and all, but it is a joy to drive.

A 400k T6 will sell though. Undercut the X5, and they have a winner.

Don’t want to argue with you.
      Just asking.
How many airbags in previous generation of XC90 and current one in Malaysia?

Menodai nama Volvo aje. Volvo for life internationally, Volvo for poseur in Malaysia.

I think it’s fair that they price it around 500k for the top of the range T8. I’m sure they’ll bring in the T6 for much less than that, 390-400k CKD? Sucks that there is still no news on extension of tax exemption for CKD hybrids, else they could sell the T8 at 300+k….yum. Would take this over a range rover anytime. Much more subtle.

volvo traditional practice…sell 100 units cbu full spec better engine at lower profit, then sell inferior ckd version with inferior engine but only 10k cheaper…see xc60 t6 cbu to xc60 2.0 ckd….and also s60 t6 cbu to s60 t5/t4 ckd

Ouch! This is not a BMW nor Merc. RM500k wouldn’t be a hot cake here.
