2016 Toyota Mark X facelift adds new Safety Sense P

toyota-mark-x-2016-fl

Details of the facelifted, second-generation Toyota Mark X have been released for the Japanese market. The revised Mark X is available in five variants; the range-topping 350RDS, the 250RDS, the 250S and 250S Four (for four-wheel-drive), 250G/250G Four, and the 250G/250G Four with F Package.

As the names imply, the 350 RDS is powered by the 2GR-FSE 3.5 litre, naturally-aspirated V6 engine producing 318 PS at 6,400 rpm and 380 Nm of torque at 4,800 rpm, while the 250RDS,250S and 250S Four, 250G and 250G Four are powered by 4GR-FSE 2.5 litre, naturally-aspirated V6 engine with 203 PS at 6,400 rpm and 243 Nm of torque at 4,800 rpm.

On the exterior, the Mark X receives a redesigned front bumper, grille, and headlamps, the latter now LED units complemented by LED DRLs on the 250S, 250S Four, 250RDS and 350RDS variants. Aluminium wheels measuring 18 inches are standard on the 350RDS, 250RDS, and are optional on the 250S and 250S Four. Otherwise, 16-inch wheels are standard.

Inside, the 350RDS, 250RDS and 250S variants receive red and black Alcantara upholstery as standard, while the 250S Four can be specified with it as an option. The revised Mark X receives additional spot welding and the application of structural adhesive for improved bodyshell stiffness, which aims to improve steering response, grip and ride comfort.

Perhaps the most significant update to the revised Mark X is the addition of the Toyota Safety Sense P active safety suite on all variants. The active safety suite employs a forward-facing radar and camera, which can detect both vehicles and pedestrians in order to avoid or mitigate forward collisions.

The pre-crash brake system operates at speeds between 10 km/h and 80 km/h, while the lane departure alert is supported by the monocular camera which detects lines on the road. If the driver of the Mark X deviates from the lane without indicating, he or she will be notified via an audible buzzer and by a warning on the instrument display.

If no action is taken, the electric power steering will assist in directing the car away from the detected lines, back within the lane. On the highway, the radar sensor works together with the camera to provide adaptive cruise control. At a steady cruise, the system maintains throttle to keep its distance from the vehicle ahead.

If the vehicle ahead of the Mark X decelerates, the systems will detect the change in speed and close the throttle to attain the deceleration required. If more deceleration is required, the system will activate the brake to further slow the Mark X.

The system will also prompt the driver to take evasive action if abrupt deceleration is detected from the vehicle ahead. When the vehicle ahead accelerates, the Mark X will follow suit, up to the pre-determined cruising speed; the same applies when the vehicle ahead changes lane and vacates the space ahead of the Mark X.

Prices for the facelifted Toyota Mark X in Japan start from 2,656,800 yen (RM105,866) for the 250G F Package variant, all the way to 3,850,200 yen (RM153,419) for the top-of-the-line, 3.5 litre 350RDS.

So cheap in Japan and so high specced. Here, at most also you can get Altis for the same price.

CKD Made in Malaysia quality. Which is much lower than CBU Japan quality

This indicates that this is not their main “power train” to generate profit..model which is profitable will receive more frequent update and replacement. This is cruel reality of auto industry :)

You are right. Look at caldina. Its sales was ended to poor market response in Japan. At one time, the harrier SUV was also hold. That’s how business works. If sales is good, the replacement model comes in early. Example vios has 4 years life cycle

Did i see correctly? Does the lower models come without an audio system in the year 2016 in an exec car??? But then again Toyota still thinks 2 airbags are enough for markets that are not strict on vehicle and road safety, all in the name of profits…

Yeah it is a real pity. Car manufacturers in the developing markets really need to catch a wake-up. This would not fly in Europe and the US.

Still using 2.5 & 3.5? Toyota no engineering can produce 1.8 or 2.0 with turbo? Toyota really stopped on very old generation.

Loved the Mark X since the first generation. Shows that Toyota haven’t forgotten how to do good looking rear wheel drive cars. Considered it briefly, but the specs brought to Malaysia for the 2nd gen were pretty low spec with only cloth seats and no cruise control (what were they thinking??).

But wait, wasn’t it already facelifted before?
