Honda CBR150R: latest 150cc bike in Malaysia

With fuel prices expected to go up in the next election, many will be looking at ways to reduce fuel expenditure. While Ratan Tata wants to convert motorcyclists into car drivers with the Tata Nano, there is no such thing here yet and for those who are already driving cars with small engines, the only way is to go down and replace the transportation method of certain short commutes with a bike instead of a car. I myself have purchased an old 2nd hand Kawasaki Victor for this purpose.
One of the latest “hot” yet relatively affordable sports bikes in the Malaysian market is the Honda CBR150R, brought in officially by Boon Siew Honda Malaysia and it costs RM10,363.17 on the road including insurance. The Honda CBR150R is powered by a 150cc (149.4cc) 4-stroke carburetted single cylinder 4 valve DOHC engine with 11.0:1 compression and CDI ignition, mated to a 6-speed wet clutch manual transmission. It produces 18.98 PS at 10,500rpm and 13.5Nm of torque at 8.500rpm.
The engine is water cooled with an electric fan that turns on automatically when needed. The bike has a 10 liter fuel tank which will cost RM19.20 to fill up at current RON97 fuel prices. Front suspension uses telescopic shocks while the rear is a monoshock. The meter panel has a speedometer, an RPM meter, a fuel gauge and a temperature meter. Brakes are discs at both the front and rear, sized 276mm and 220mm respectively.

oo…if the body can be “bigger” abit so it will looks more aggresive…just like 250 cc one…
January 30, 2008 @ 3:13 am
hmm maybe a EX5 will be cheaper when you travel in town..this bike is good for long journey..for rm10k then its affordable la..
January 30, 2008 @ 3:23 am
i ll still prefer the fuel injected yamaha fz150i, if u ask
January 30, 2008 @ 5:36 am
bikes should be banned !
crime wil be less by 50% as its a primaRY transport for those MF thiefs, accidents and fatality wil be reduced dramatically…and no more mat rampit crap….
it should never be used as a primary mode of transportation..its almost suicidal…
January 30, 2008 @ 5:49 am
daa….
do u think, only mat rempit own bike meh??
January 30, 2008 @ 5:58 am
VERY late launch…
This bike was launched in Indonesia about 3 years ago.
January 30, 2008 @ 6:03 am
banned??? i dont think so… e-nabilll, think again… i’m also using bike to work due to traffic jams. thats for this kinda bike wif OTR of 10k, i dont think Mat Rempit will buy this bike lorr…. moreover, the front lights looks fugly…. hahahahah!
January 30, 2008 @ 6:56 am
Too expensive la how to compete with Yamaha FZ150i?
January 30, 2008 @ 7:40 am
mat rempits rejoice!!!
January 30, 2008 @ 7:55 am
Alredy ‘basi’ in Indonesia and Thailand. Why did they bring in this old model. Expensive but using carburator. Yamaha FZ150i is up to date with injection engine even the price is lower than this Honda CBR. My dear friends, we better buy CBR600RR. He! He! He! Just kidding.
Paul! Ain’t there any review on Yamaha FZ150i?

what a rude comment.even in big cities such as KL or PJ, bikes are still the most practical way to move around.its far cheaper than any 4 wheels transportation ever built.you should be thankful to motorcyclist as they reduced the total of cars in malaysian roads.imagine if all the people going to work by cars, would the road will be twice worst moving-parking lane ever right after the office hour?
riding bikes whether suicidal or not, it depends on the motorcyclist and other driver.there is still a lot of car driver who was too dumb to give signal when they are going left of right.and this often became fatal for the motorcyclist.and not all motorcyclist dont value their life like mat rempit. i also hate those mat rempit and snatcthieves, but not all motorcyclist are bad as them.
January 30, 2008 @ 8:34 am
Hmm, a new racing mod candidate. I guess this motorcycle will not be well accepted as the price of the bike can get a decent kancil or iswara already. 4 strokes engine is still not the cup of tea for 150cc rempit. hehehe
January 30, 2008 @ 8:49 am
wahlaueh…
actually the outlook not bad lah… but stability & power wise i dun think this 150cc can perform very well because of weight increase as compare to ‘cub chai’ . That’s why i sell my 2nd car, SAGA & change 2nd hand Virago 1100 (RM12k + 2k…for paint & some repairs), woo.. this bike can perform 0-100 in 6secs (check from internet)… haha…. cheaper way to achieve high speed & pickup if cannot affort high cost performance car… but roadtax…Rm350 annual… Advise for those also look for bigger superbike… do not go for Virago 535… you will regret soon…. for the repair & maintenance… This bike electrical design is having problems…
January 30, 2008 @ 9:18 am
e-nabill - come on, give yourself some self-respecting comments. I’m sure a few of your relatives are using motorbikes for work or leisure.
January 30, 2008 @ 9:39 am
This bike reminds me of the olden days where I use my Suzuki VS125 scooter back in Form 4 to commute daily to school…
kinda miss that baby that once took me up to Genting
I’m looking towards the dealers bringing in the bigger cc scooters.. it would cost a Vios or maybe a Civic!
January 30, 2008 @ 9:43 am
e-nabilll, my fren, not every biker is a mat rempit u know…
not everyone earn enuff to own a car. actually I do earn enuff to own a car yet i choose not to. Why? cos dun hv family to move around, can jimat on fuel, no need to worry about jam.
Summore less pollution, as mine’s a 4-stroker that dont emit those god-damned smoke…. only thing bad about biking is easier to die, and also no protection from the elements, in which case a car to me is just an overpriced umbrella
Of cos, not having a car also makes it a little difficult to find girlfren, cos they might find it a turnoff u dun hv car to fetch then around
January 30, 2008 @ 9:45 am
e-nabill,
ko ada $ bli kete, ko pakai la kete elok2.
ada org mampu bli moto je, so diorg pakai la moto.
gaya komen ko tu mcm la riders ni teruk2.
aku pn terasa gak.
agak2nye la kn, kalu org ckp ko pakai kete buruk, mesti ko marah kn?
lenkali, bg komen biarla berasas..
btw, this comment should be mostly related to the bikes above, the specs, looks & performance etc. not the men & their behavior on the wheels, ok?
if i recalled it clearly, recently a chief gangster was shot dead by the police while he was escaping from the law enforcers in a BMW 3series.
so is it fair to say that all people driving a 3series are gangsters, isn’t it?
no offence, just my thought.
we are both drivers&bikers.
HAPPY MOTORING

haha, cool down guys. maybe nabill has just had a very bad experience with rempits recently. give him a break lah.
i think 10k plus for a 150cc bike is kinda overpriced.
January 30, 2008 @ 10:01 am
Ok on bikes (seeing rarely bikes are discussed on Paultan), Honda, Kawasaki & Yamaha should really bring in those 250cc - 400cc bikes they have overseas.
150cc is still abit of a low-end biking option. Problem in Malaysia is, if u want a midrange bike have to go for that damned Naza Blades, which according to feedbacks are lousy bikes. Or this 150cc CBR.
Why Kawa stop bringing in the ZX-R 250? I think i know, bet our G impose high tax for this midrange models to “help” our local bike manufacturer (read Naza).
Else, have to go straight to supersports models like those CBR600RRs or ZX6-Rs, which arent exactly suitable for city commuting. And the tax is murderous for those models! Even the “entry-level” Kawa Er6-n costs close to rm50k, if I’m not wrong.
If only we could have something decent for around rm15k-rm20k. Oh well….
January 30, 2008 @ 10:01 am
waahhhh…kaki curi sure fallin in love with this bike….
January 30, 2008 @ 10:03 am
what? 10K for this 4 stroke?
better buy Yamaha 135lc. worth buying.. it is also cheaper than this CBR.
but.. remember.. most top and hot bike.. exposed to be stolen rather than unfamous one.
RM10 per week, 4km daily. home to office..
i save almost 200 per month with my kapchai.

sebab nak beli SBK x mampu..
OMG…RM10k for a bike..kidding me??? Infact this not a new bike at all..still use the same platform of NSR150RR launched somewhen 15 yrs ago to fight with Yamaha TZM150..Fuhh. But i think i know why Boon Siew did this.May be this is their last resort to wollup maximum profit before being taken over by Honda Motor Japan.. Last month Honda Motor Japan CEO attended some function in Penang with Boon Siew..MOU signing may be??

could you please share with the other readers how did you calculate that “crime will be less by 50%” if bikes are banned? do you have any official statistics to support your statement? haha next time leave the numbers out if you don’t have any facts.
mat rempit is not the only nuisance on our roads. don’t tell me you haven’t experienced wannabe race car drivers on the road?
accidents and fatality are caused by man, not machines. it is how you ride your bike/drive your car that determines the road safety. you drive a car with a 5 star safety rating recklessly, you could also die, killing other road users as well.
anyways, thank you for making this forum a fun place with your shallow comments.
p/s: “will” is spelled with TWO “L”s…not one.

hey Paul, how is your Kawa Victor? Still powerful? I remember the last time I had mine, one mean machine.
This new honda model really sux in the looks department. we will never get the same look as Yamaha TZM. This honda will looks better if the body cover is made wider.
January 30, 2008 @ 11:03 am
NICE JOB HONDA! ALTHOGH ITS LATE. BUT PAUL THE YAMAHA FZ REVIEW?
January 30, 2008 @ 11:22 am
Cool Guys…just a waste of time commenting e-nabilll statement……Anyway cool bike but way too overprice.
Yep, if only the fairing could be made to look bigger like Aprilia 125RS/ Cagiva Mito should be cun enough…or even Yamaha’s cool looking YZF-R125 which is available in Europe.
January 30, 2008 @ 11:24 am
giler mahal RM10K for 150cc. gahmen ni kalo nak krg sesak jln, kasi tax superbike krg sket laa. tak pun, kasi naked bike nye tax rendah dari R-bikes, sebab selit kete + city driving better with naked bikes. ada sape2 nak jual kawa z750/z1000? gua nak beli weh. tak tahan naik kete dah!
January 30, 2008 @ 12:18 pm
statistics?? its jus a metaphore la….jus to emphisize the point.nt a statistic…its a an opinion….and wen did i exactly say ‘every biker is a mat rampit’ ??
since this is going nowhere , back to the topic,HONDA CBR150R !
January 30, 2008 @ 12:43 pm
FZ150??.. ermm.. yamaha FZ new tech.. but lower in hp and tork, 14hp only.. 5 speed, belakang drum brake.. sure tak boleh kejar CBR150… new tech, but no power, what is the point? but fz is cheap.. well, so togel.. tats why… RM10k.. but if bole lari 180kmp.. ok what…??

Hey fren… better dun go for ZX-R 250…why, maintenance will kill you… it costs more than 500cc bike because the engine is shrink size from bigger cc & smaller components which subject to easier worn out… may be ZZR250 is ok.
If can’t affort for new superbike just go for 2nd hand… may b need to reserve few k for repair to optimum condition…
January 30, 2008 @ 1:14 pm
nice bike not very nice price…..
January 30, 2008 @ 1:49 pm
wah a cool bike…hmmm but malaysian more prefer kapchai then superbike…i dunno why…easy to maintai mayb…g luck honda cbr150
January 30, 2008 @ 3:23 pm
kody, yea true, I heard the old ZX-R250 alot of problem. But then I wonder why they don’t come out with newer models.
Seriously Honda, Kawa and Yamaha should consider coming out with naked bikes between 250cc-400cc, especially to cater to our market, as kk had mentioned.
If you check international homepages of all the bike companies also you wont find midrange models. Partly due to the fact that the supersport models weigh damn light these days (160kg or less for a 600cc!)
January 30, 2008 @ 4:41 pm
10k walla can reduce the price a little bit meh. dream on riding monster but cant afford ones very sad lol 10 years already save moning still not enough buy sbk lol. here in sarawak its very expensive haiyaaaaaaa who ever ride honda valkry its look hots

you know why? if you been in US you will find the roads are broad & straight… so mat salleh like high cc…. that why 400cc below not very popular & practical for long distance travel.
for 600cc below 200kg is ok at least you can meneuver more freely…
January 30, 2008 @ 5:07 pm

FYI, >500cc bike roadtax RM350 annual…. more expensive than my wira…

A few years back, my friend & his wife opted to use bike to commute to office and leave his car at home…At the federal highway (near the clock tower, entrance Subang Airport) another motor accidentally hit his rear tyre and his bike fell.
Wife was in coma (eventhough using helmet) at University Hospital and 2 days later passed away.

hey guys…tengok spec dier lah before bandingkan harga…macam macam komen lah korang nih…
kalo nak banding dengan LC135 tuh, bagi aku xboleh banding sebab just 135cc jer.but the price is oso overpriced for that piece of junk hardcored wanted by the penyangak…then kalo nak banding fzr150 tuh, bagi aku, even the price is low than cbr150,tapi fzr150 tuh diskbrek belakang pon tarak.apa kes bro??ketinggalan zaman tul bab safety ni.cbr has fan for cooling.just like honda click tat kas one oso…
lagi satu, antara honda vs yamaha, better go for honda in quality and spare parts.one more thing, honda has greater resale value than yamaha.trust me.
p/s:i’ll buy one soon.insyaAllah.i’ll sell my kancil for tat.becoz after tis,the oil price will hike at about 50-70cent.trust me.

I can’t imagine what the price tag would be like for that model. it’s a yzf, similar to r1 design, it’s great bike, so the price should be along with aprillia rs125 or cagiva mito ev.
but i like the design of fz150i, naked. if it have similar characteristic as lc135, it should do very well in the market. still looking for a review on that bike.

from the local newspaper review of the bike,, the rider size overwhelm the tiny dimensions of the bike. To look good, the bike need to have some “meat” to it, at least it has the size of a sportsbike.
