We’ve come to the end of our 2014 Indonesia International Motor Show coverage – paultan.org has been an annual visitor to the IIMS since 2011, and, God willing, we’ll continue to make the two-hour flight to Jakarta for years to come.
This is because the show is growing from strength to strength, visible by the number of exhibitors, the amount of space it takes up and the growing visitor count – the 2014 edition drew in a big crowd of 380,365 over the 10 days it was held at the JI Expo in Kemayoran.
Speaking of the venue, the show is outgrowing the venue, so much so that IIMS promoter Dyandra Promosindo had to turn down exhibitors. We’re told that the expo is set for an expansion, and there’s also the option of moving to a bigger location further away.
But the main reason why we head to Jakarta every year is the cars. As Indonesia grows to rival Thailand as the biggest auto market in ASEAN – with such a large population and a low car ownership ratio, it’s set to overtake the Land of Smiles very soon – carmakers have started to bring regional and even world debuts (Honda CR-Z facelift in 2012) to Jakarta.
The cars are relevant to us too, with many coming soon models previewed in Jakarta before heading to our shores. Small car expert Daihatsu is big in Indonesia, and as sister to our market leader Perodua, its IIMS displays are always of interest to us.
This year, Daihatsu paraded sequels of previous concepts, showcars that are one step closer to reality. We showed you the UFC-3 (next Alza?), CUV-2 (future Terios/Kembara?), Ayla GT2 (rally look for Axia’s sister) and some modded made-in-Malaysia Sirions.
Honda gave its HR-V compact SUV, which is coming to Malaysia next year, a regional debut in Jakarta. If the fantastic reader response to that story is anything to go by, the “baby CR-V” is set to be a big hit here.
We also had a good look at the new Nissan X-Trail, just launched in Indonesia and debuting this year in Malaysia as a CKD. The Thai-assembled Mazda 2, also on its way here, made an appearance too. We have two specs of the ASEAN-spec supermini for you to compare here. Mitsubishi launched the Delica “Sport Utility MPV” for Indonesia at the show – would the high-riding seven-seater work here?
We hope you’ve enjoyed our exclusive live coverage of IIMS 2014. If not, we hope this 66-pic gallery of Jakarta’s cewek cantik will make up for it. Our customary sign off, as usual, for your enjoyment. :)
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Use Indon awet to cool down petrol hike emotion ke?
Why none of my Indon maids look similar to them. Darn !
because you cannot afford to pay their asking price.
Cewek in Indon open (m8nded) nowadays… you could see the transformation yearly.
Surprised just in few years time, Indon auto development spike beyond msia. What happen to our independent Institute & Association even ministry over the decade?
The msia auto Vision was set ~30yrs back, with cont. development until today.
Finally, we have the result from the 30yrs of hard work. Im please to annouse here: Malaysia already become automotive hub as planned.
Yes —> SECOND HAND AUTOMOTIVE HUB
By developed GREY SECOND HAND IMPORT COMPANY, the numbers of company & second hand car import volume is growing constantly as planned. You can see more & more new grey importer shop open nowadays like 7-11 in THAI.
The Grey Importer was stressed & strongly supported by trade ministry as announced months back.
After THAI, we are see a new star: Indon- the coming new auto hub.
10years after, msia will have the grey import of second hand cars from neighbours THAI INDON.
Eventually Msia could form another new hub
—> SCRAP AUTOMOTIVE HUB OF ASEAN
Any cars after 5yrs in THAI INDON SG VIET FILIP MYAM could consider sell to grey importer in msia. We have plenty of grey importer like 7-11 where developed accordingly as planned.
As we msian deserve & only afford to buy SECOND HAND CAR.
actually what r u try to say?
I no si picking Inglish
Really? Millions of them come to M’sia every year looking for jobs, not the other way around. This won’t be happening if their automotive sector is prospering like what you said.
because Indonesia is huge and their population is several times bigger than Malaysia. the people in urban Jakarta earn more than less the same as Malaysians and you will never find those people working in Malaysia as maids and labourers. the maids and labourers are from less-developed Sumatra and Eastern Java. the same way that the Sabahans need to go overseas and come to Peninsula Malaysia to work. that’s enough socio-economic lesson for you. anymore, I have charge you.
Dude… wake up! Its about cheap labour there in Thailand and Indonesia.
This is what i waiting for…
i think the 5 girls in front of toyota booth (Image ID – 275518) is among the best looking in the IIMS.
no mood see la… fuel subsidy less liao :'(
Same like last time, my theory is that if only 1% of the population consist of super hot ceweks, then with a population of about 250 million, the super hot will be about 2.5 milion…. Makan tak habis… Haha
gonna move to indo now
“Small carmaker Daihatsu is big in Indonesia”, so is Daihatsu big or small? I believe the right way of writing should be “Small-car maker…”
Running a blog requires continuous learning, especially in terms of writing skills. Brush up, please.
fap fap fap
Usually all these hot cewek are originated from Jawa and it contains either Chinese or Dutch or even Arab blood. Their genes isnt those typical kakak maid we get from indon. Its like Malays over here. Some look so high class u just wanna get to know them, some minah rempit u saw u wanna vomit.
Minah Rempit make you want to vomit, they do serve a purpose for the Mat Rempits as ‘trophies’ to the Rempit Champion Racers for a night.
Meh…. these ceweks are nothing compared to those puyings of Thai Auto Show
Wow! Leng Lui … Leng Lui :) One day must go there…

Agree totally with ‘Operation Manager’.
We used to be the Asean auto leadr, now we become a country of used rejects from Japan, UK and who knows where else.
Indonesia and Thailand have overtaken us, look at the new models launched there and the variety.
Here, its red tape, duties, APs and Proton squeezing our money.
As someone said, Dr.M the great is such a visionary, he is the father of Thai and Indon auto industries.
PATR – Proton squeezing your money? You can always buy a Perodua (which is also a National car) or other Chinese cars.
You have a choice to buy or not to buy!
Not impressed…and I’m not drool now.
