Toyota Supra with V12 Engine

Supra V12These guys have taken a 5.0 litre 1GZ-FE V12 engine from a Toyota Century and put it into a Toyota Supra. Not being satisfied with that, they’ve added a custom bolt-on turbokit to it.

The result is a 542 horsepower V12-powered Toyota Supra, though I don’t really know why the need for the V12 engine as the stock Supra engine could easily go beyond 550 horsepower if you tune it properly with the necessary strengthening, engine management, and larger turbos.

Anyway, video after jump. I think there’s a typo in the video though – the 1GZ-FE is a 4,996cc engine which makes it 5.0 litres, instead of the stated 5,996cc.

I think they did it because they wanted reliability and daily drivability in the car too, just like how REamemiya put Cosmo 20Bs into FD3S RX7s. The 13Bs can easily put out more than 600hp but will become unreliable, 20Bs on the other hand can be tuned to put out 600hp comfortably while not putting as much stress on the engine. My two cents.

I think they want to make it a road legal car to drive… Anywayz a V12 engine is more durability then a high tune 6-inline turbo engine..

They r not mass producing this car so i think reliability is not much an issue. In fact, its meant for track use i think. Its a wierd conversion bcoz tht V12 is heavier compared with its famed ori engine which is well known to pump over 500 bhp while still reliable. With this mod, alot of balancing and weight distribution had to be done for it to handle well. I think its more of an exercise. Btw the front light looks very beng.

Nice headlamps! And I like how they made the rear intake scoop, tasteful. What's a Xantia doing outside the Top Secret workshop? Curious really.

    alternation;

The Asparadrink and D1 RX7s (and another one that looks like a Porche) weren't for mass production either. 20Bs are heavier and will disrupt the weight balance too, but it was still done. Reliability is an issue if the car is to be used in a race or tournament. What good's a car that can win one round before having to sit out the remaining races?

    Check out those plenums!!

One of the most pronounced and obvious reasons for swapping the 3 litre 2JZ-GTE for the 5 litre 1GZ-FE was because of the massive difference in torques. 481NM > 298NM. You can even hear Iida-san commenting on how great the torque is at 2.49 of the video.

The engine also has a high compression ratio of 10.5:1 which means that acceleration would be consistent and quick in it's natural N/A form. Coupled with that turbocharger in the video above, the car is quite a force to be reckoned with.

Plus, its built by Top Secret's Smokey Nagata whom we all know churns out incredible cars like his RB26DET (Not typo, its single turbo) Supra, 986hp 33 GT-R and Turbocharged VK45 V8 engined V35 Skyline that did 341km on the Autobahn in Germany for fun.

    Oh blisss…..

looks like the headlamps are taken from gallardo. i mean the shape and style.

but anyway, i think this v12 twin turbo can goes beyond 800hp.

    just my 2 cents

    PTAllTheBest:

You are right, it can most definitely surpass 800hp, but they maintained it at 542hp with the mid sized HKS GT-RS turbind to keep it track-able.800hp and above would mean a bigger turbine with increased lag. Besides, 500hp for track use is more than sufficient =)

cbljkkj, maybe it's true from your point of view.

i think they are only try to get some fun on a v12 engine.

Supra king …. i really like the japanese tuning … they using the v12 with small twin turbo only 0.4bars …. how about using the 15.0bars twin turbo … hoho …. 1000ps is easy for this engine … haha can race with ferrali …how about ferrali twin turbo >??

    mmcwei:

The most probable reason that the Century's engine was only rated at 276hp/280ps is because of the gentlemen's agreement all the car manufacturers had to not surpass that horsepower mark if most of can remember.

    Masterpiece ?

do we really need a V12 ? with such complex mechs ? do we ?

should make it to comes with Supercharger+Turbocharger!

any straight-six RB26DETT could get those figures(in terms of bhp)

Displacement still win hand down! but….

    Naaaaaaa…… Guess how its swallow petrol ? ? ?

dont need that much power. just need to make sure it puts it down correctly like a porsche turbo and perhaps nissan's new attessa system or watever they gonna call it.

traction/handling and fuel efficiency is the key now for power performance.
