Peugeot 308 GT THP 175: latest French hot hatch

The most powerful variant of the Peugeot 308 will be unveiled at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show next month, and it will be based on the 3-door Peugeot 308 body style. The Peugeot 308 GT THP 175 is powered by a 1.6 litre turbocharged engine, the same one found in BMW’s MINI Cooper S.

While its lesser 5-door 308 GT THP 150 sibling can be mated to a 4 speed auto, and the same engine in the Cooper S has a ZF 6-speed auto, the Peugeot 308 GT THP 175 is only available with a 6-speed manual transmission. This will be the second Peugeot with the 1.6 turbo in a 175 horses state of tune, with the first being the 207 GTi THP 175.

You can say that the new GT THP 175 is the spiritual successor to the 177 PS 2.0 litre Peugeot 307 Féline 180. The new car is only 0.1 seconds slower to 100km/h at 8.3 seconds, but goes on to a higher top speed of 225km/h compared to the 307 180’s 220km/h. It is also more fuel economical at 37.1 mpg combined, compared to the 307’s 33.6 mpg combined, as well as less polluting at 180 g/km CO2 compared to the 200 g/km CO2 of the outgoing hot hatch 307.

The Peugeot 308 GT THP 175 will go on sale officially in April 2008. Will Nasim Sdn Bhd bring this in as a halo model for the 308? Look at more photos after the jump.

    Where’s the exhaust tip?
Don’t hide the exhaust tip for a sport version model…

For this car, it’s a total different feeling from the picture and actually being there, probably becasue of the design and curves. It’s true for most Peugeot cars, but this one’s more particular. Before, I’ve already seen many pictures, including reviews from The Star, and I tought, “not bad”, but when I see the real unit in person at the Peugeot 3S Glenmarie Opening Ceremony, it’s so much difference. I even taken photo, but when I view back, it can’t bring the same feeling of seeing the real thing.

For this one 308 GT, the PCM members were talking to one of the people there and he said most probably it will not be more than RM150K!
The 206GTi 138 already priced more than 150K OTR. If this one can really come below RM150K, it’s…

Wrong legend. Its the 205 Rallye you’re talking about. Bare skins and bones that one and cheap. I just gave up on looking for cheap fun drives. They are extinct.

Forget about Nasim bring french fun here. Its the 407 ainit? That’s what they want to push down our throats. How bout 407 with 1.6 engine NA? Yea more likely. Boring.

There’s no such thing as a 407 1.6 NA. I don’t think it would fit down your throat either.

i don’t think there’ll be any other naza branded peugeots after the 206 so peugeot fans can be happy.

kingglim what do you mean by ‘con’ people? 206 is still being sold worldwide (probably until 2010). It’s a good car, CKD kit from Europe, at a very good price. Look up JMEPA here on Paul Tan’s site, read the press release links, try and understand exchange rates, duty structure and draw your own conclusions about the industry before writing things which are defamatory. Remember, watch what you say because if what you write is proven untrue in court you could be tracked down and held liable, and made to pay a heft sum.

I personally like peugeot cars and i really hope that nasim would also have a good after sales service. if things go smooth in a year of two, people will gradually have confidence in peugeot cars = peugeot cars will have a better resale value = people not afraid to buy peugeot cars for the fear of high depreciation value.

wonder what would be the selling price of ‘standard’ 308 wif 1.6 na engine if launch in Msia.
Below 90K for the CKD version? There will be 308 CKD rite?

    intermilan,

They’re going to CKD 308 low end version (1.6 NA Engine I presume). But I heard they will bring in the CBU first (which should be the high end engine with light pressue turbo 1.6L 150HP 240nm Torque). This 1.6L are more powerful than the 2.0L EW10J4 and also much better FC and cleaner for the environment. Impressive!

For the CKD, from what I heard that day from their discussion, it should be below 100K, *possibly* below 90K. Either way, the 308 selling below 100K is way low, too bad the public can’t understand it (comparing with ASEAN imports and exchange rates), just like the 206 CKD (aka Bestari) and upcoming 407 CKD.

Its a shame that we seem to have some fuddy duddy old grandad designer here ! Its the same wheels as the Allure ltd edition ???

Peugeot have lost the buzz they had with the 205 gti etc , We need more aggresive looks and BIG wheels !!
