First pix of new Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2

These are supposed to be the first photos of a new rear wheel drive version of the Gallardo, aptly called the LP550-2. And just like the name suggests, the 550 indicates the engine has been tuned to make 10 horses less than the 5.2 litre V10 motor in the LP560-4. More details will come later but the initial word is that it will be about 10% cheaper and be lighter by 30kg thanks to the absence of all-wheel drive hardware.

Look after the jump for 4 shots.

10% cheaper just by removing the AWD system… Hmmm… The guys at LAM-PO may have some costing issues to fix… ;P

i was thinking, what is the point of this car?

discard the 4wd system to compete with others in the same class/category, and at the same time bring down the $$$ ?

if i got so much cash, i ain't gonna give a damn about this car and rather get a 'complete' gallardo with as much optional stuff as possible…..

too much options/variants on a single model, particularly on expensive machines like gallardo etc, is nothing good…..

if the potential customers can't bear with the 4wd, then go get a Ferrari or Porsche lahhhh…… don't spoil the Lambo……

It's for people who want rear wheel drive, for whatever reasons. When you have that much money, you want to be sure to get exactly what you want.

I hate the rear end, i prefer the previous se version. 4wd discarded for better take off, nice but need to see how it fares in real life with the likes of f430 and 911 Turbo. I can't wait for the new F450 (though not confirmed) to materialise. Overall, nice car but the rear reminds me of the third generation civic. ugly rear.. i want the old sexy se rear back!!

  • lol, paul is absolutely right. I WANT IT NO MATTER WHAT syndrome.

this would be ideal for drifting though but handling would have to be boosted.

  • Actually tis is what lambo hardcore young spirited driver expect from a lambo…a proper rwd car. Not tat irritating 4wd system…which is for uncle/ladies and less thrill.

  • the engine is 'detuned' to have less hp.bring this to a tuner workshop they should be able to 'retune' it back to original hp rite?i mean what they did to reduce the power didn't involve any mechanical, just some tweaking on engine management only i suppose.infact removing the 4WD should free up more hp since less moving parts

    what??? 4wd for uncles/aunties/ladies????

i don't see any of them driving 4wd gtr or lambo or evo waiting for their children in front of schools…..

some rich yet brainless customers just spoiled the brilliant 4wd system of lambo, sigh…..

its not like u gonna build a desktop system and ask the tauke to give u the specs u required……

  • Skyline & some other cars intelligent 4WD bias is wayyy different, 20:80 F:R seems to feel almost RWD, proper assisted RWD rather than 4WD…..but still no thrill…even in GTR35

  • I myself dont prefer tat good lookin super cool GTR35, I just prefer bare and basic thrill machine like lotus, x-bow, ariel atom etc where i can get close relationship between car and me and the track, and must RWD

lambo has been 4rever saying that theyll make a special rwd version of the gallardo 2 properly compete wit the f430.. even the superleggera was supposed 2 be rwd in the earlier stages, but at the last minute they scrapped that idea n gone wit 4wd instead..

i like it, im really lookin 4ward 2 a review on this.. better still, pitch it up against the f430.. thats surely is gonna be one hell of a review..

n 4 those who mentioned things bout this will spoil the lambo feel n heritage, thats complete rubbish.. 4 yrs lambo's have been rwd, its only after audi took over that theyve started utilising 4wd in all their cars..

the thing i dont quite understand is, y tune the engine 10hp down?? could it be that the chassis will be too wild n uncontrollable wit 560hp since now that all of those italian horses goin 2 the rear wheels only?? thats too small of an amount, i dont think it'll make that much of a difference anyway..

but anyway, i like the idea of a rwd gallardo.. who knows, it'll be sweeter 2 drive than the awd version.. lookin 4ward 2 a review on it..
