Skoda Rapid: a more affordable Czech Volkswagen Vento

Skoda Vision D

The latest news from India is that Skoda is planning to revive the Skoda Rapid nameplate to launch its own version of the current VW Vento (Polo Sedan) for the Indian market, as well as other related markets where a sedan version of the Skoda Fabia would be suitable.

Skoda Vision D

The styling for the new Rapid is said to be derived from the Vision D Concept shown here, which first made its debut at this year’s Geneva show. The Vision D is a larger Octavia-sized car with a coupe-like roof. The Octavia is a segment larger than the Fabia.

Look after the jump for a gallery of the Vision D.

I predict many comments will mention the similarity with Gen2

    • Similar, but better in exterior design.

      • LOL. If P1 came out with this design everybody (read: most of us) will bash. But when a company like Skoda did it everybody will praise.

        ALL HAIL SKODA!

If P1 came out with such a design, I would be the first cat in line to place an order. It is a nice looking car :-)

Feel that Skoda needs to reduce the price here in Malaysia…

yes you are right KL Stray Cat, if p1 came out with that design.. but in reality they cannot produced design similiar like that.. p1 design totally failure.. look at the new hyundai accent design, i heard it came from same design with saga blm, but saga blm got worst than new hyundai accent. really disappointed with p1..

skoda can survive but need a boost of promotion like what ford and peugeot did.recently i go to bermaz auto and saw a skoda superb and octavia vrs there and i ask them a couple of question.they didn’t sell the superb to people but only for high level management use for corporate sector they only sell the octavia that is what i been tell.but looking at skoda i felt it was awesome.very well built.hope that they will bring more skoda here in malaysia only my 2cent thought…good night

It’s sad how weak the Skoda brand is here, considering that it’s one of the top customer-rated brands in the world.

  • Yes it was the rejected initial, early Gen2 design in 2000 but ends up in Skoda hand.

Otherwise Gen2 ought to be the Asia’s answer to BMW 1-Series…

  • To me skoda is a good car. No doubt. But here?. Really a big Question. Why?

I sent my Skoda in Jan/Feb this year. Suppose to change its lower arm or bush. But somehow they need to order and I have to wait for another 2-3 weeks. Until now, whenever I call them, they will always reply that they will update me soon. Hhhmm… Better say 2-3 years rather than weeks. I can’t do outside cause it will void my warranty. Even the small thing you can’t handle, please Bernaz don’t waste your time to predict your future with Skoda!! What a waste…

its a radical design whith the new skoda design philosophy. I hope it does not turn out to be the fabia sloon with the identical underpinnings. I am relly no a fan of the fabia.
