The GT500 team Weider HSV-010 has repeated history. The Honda-powered team, which started from pole last year, will find themselves in the same position for tomorrow’s race. However, the team nearly lost the most desired position on the grid.
Zent Cerumo SC450 has put on a blazing performance during the second qualifying session, which is also known as a Super Lap. At the end, only 0.182 seconds separate the two.
Takashi Kogure of Weider HSV-010 said that he was not expecting to get pole position and instead tipped Yuji Tachikawa of Zent Cerumo for the top spot because the car was faster at every sector. It was only at the final sector that Kogure realized he had a chance; his closest rival was slower by 0.1 second.
Last year, Weider HSV-010 (#18) started from pole and went on to win the race. Making up the rest of the grid are Zent Cerumo SC430 (#38), Motul Autech GT-R (#23), Calsonic Impul GT-R (#12), Petronas Tom’s SC430 (#36), D’station Advan GT-R (#24), Raybrig HSV-010 (#100), KeePer Kraft Sc430 (#19), WedsSport Advan SC430 (#19), Denso Kobelco SC430 (#39), S Road Reito Mola GT-R (#1), Keihin HSV-010 (#17), Arta HSV-010 (#8), Epson HSV-010 (#32) and Eneos Sustina SC430 (#6).
In the GT300 class, Hankook Porsche will be starting the race from pole position. The drivers, at a press conference, said that it was the weight penalty on their rivals and the test in SIC in January that led to today’s victory.
