Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG previewed in factory video

s63-amg-preview-1

In conjunction with the roll-out of the first batch of the W222 Mercedes-Benz S-Class off the company’s Sindelfingen Plant, Mercedes-Benz released a video showcasing the car’s production line, giving us an insight into how Stuttgart’s latest flagship is put together.

But what’s very interesting is what Mercedes-Benz sneaked into the end of the video – there’s a version of the W222 S-Class which we have yet to see before, bearing a much more aggressive front end than the regular and AMG Sport Pack versions of the S-Class that we’ve already seen.

Yes, it’s the new Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG – the badge on the rear can clearly be seen. This white S63 AMG is conveniently followed by a grey AMG Sport Pack version of the car on the production line so you can see the difference – the full AMG car doesn’t have the chrome line across the air intakes on the left and right of the bumper.

We’re expecting the W222 S63 AMG to follow a similiar formula to what’s under the facelifted E63 AMG’s hood – a 5.5 litre V8 with two turbochargers producing 557 PS and 720Nm of torque. Now the question is will the 1,000Nm V12 turbo powered S65 AMG continue to exist for the W222?

W221 S63 was initially powered with tht 6.2 V8 but later on was updated to 5.5 V8 biturbo. The update came along with the CL facelift. Wikipedia sources at times, cant be trusted.

What’s with the people nowadays…? “This car looks like that, that car looks like this…” All cars have headlights, tail lights, steering wheels, front and back bumpers etc etc. How far off can car design goes…? Not unless you build wings and flaps on it – at the expense of aerodynamics and fuel efficiency…?

People tolerated with the complaints of Japanese cars looking dull and boring, but if you think the S-class is like an old Elantra, why don’t you be the one on the drawing board instead…? To quote someone and hence I rephrased – have you contributed anything to the automotive industry lately…?

Are you going to say my last statement sounds like Steve Jobs now…?

Well, in Germany not many people want to work in a factory anymore hence automation is introduced. Further German automakers are usually willing to invest a lot in to these equipment where else Malaysian management thinking is “Cheaper is better”. Always looking for the cheaper alternative despite the value that some high investment brings.
Some might even complain, you are reducing jobs for non university graduates and this is a typical evil corporation. So I think these are some of the dilemmas in the Auto Industry.

What does world class mean? Is having the best technology in building cars really means world class? Or having the best people thinking of the most economical way of making better cars? People or technology?
