Another day, another spy video, this time of the upcoming F30 BMW M3 sedan, which has been caught doing the Nurburgring test rounds by the Automedia spy folk. Looks lively and full of character, as the video clip suggests.
That spectacular 420 hp 4.0 litre V8 in the old M3 (both E90-based sedan and E92 Coupe) will be consigned to history, and the thirsty, throaty mill will certainly be missed – it remains a firm fave with Danny and I, the defining moment for me being with the Coupe going around Ascari, and for Danny, at Sepang last year, also with the Coupe.
But life moves on, and its replacement will likely be a triple-turbo six-pot with presumably more horses under the hood. Might lose the roar and response of that energetic eight, but it should be plenty quick. It’s a hallowed badge, so there won’t be too much mucking about and it should be proper, but will the new example have the same visceral impact and feel? Only time will tell.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
May lose it grunt and Roar, gaining 3 turbos and losing 2 cylinders.
Definitely more torque , but will it challenge the Porsche 911 turbo ??
Time will tell
