Yes folks, the Honda City Hybrid will be coming to Malaysia. This year, in fact, and as a CKD model too, as confirmed by Honda Malaysia CEO, Yoichiro Ueno. This is the first time, anywhere in the world, that a Honda official has specifically confirmed that such a model exists.
Previously, the company had only hinted that a new hybrid B-segment sedan will be introduced in Japan, which everyone then deduced to be an electric motor-assisted version of the 2014 Honda City. No more conjecture needed, then.
First details of the new model have been announced too. For starters, it’s now known that the City Hybrid will use Honda’s latest Sport Hybrid Intelligent Dual Clutch Drive (i-DCD) one-motor hybrid system that’s in the latest Jazz Hybrid, and not the older Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) system.
As per the Jazz Hybrid it’s based on, it will also have a centre-mounted fuel tank, as opposed to the rear-mounted item in the standard petrol model. Furthermore, the hybrid system’s battery pack (likely to be of the lithium-ion variety) will be stored under the rear seats.
That’s all the info we have for now. Stay tuned for more in the coming months.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with myTukar.
that hybrid engine beat prius C for FC test..great move Honda!
It should be confirmed too that the price must be higher than Proton hybrid. Or else MITI not approved it even it’s EEV qualified. NAP: never against Proton!
lol..all current p1 car not qualify for EEV incentive in NAP
Proton hybrid won’t be any lower than Preve. And for sure Honda hybrid won’t be lower than Proton hybrid (How could you be cheaper than J class?).
If the City Hybrid is selling at RM110k, does it worth it?
Hopefully it is below RM100k!!!!!!!
I predict the city hybrid price base on Honda own car but not Toyota or proton.
The city hybrid should be around RM 100k since it sound good to replace the current insight.
Besides, if the price below than that it may overlap its own city petrol model.
after >1 year, city hybrid CKD at melaka, enjoy tax incentive n sell at <100k. Then this city petrol ckd togather in melaka also. marketing plan like Jazz..95k hyrid, petrol 85k
This city petrol already CKD, isit?
In Malaysia, there is nothing lower than the Toyota Salesman. He is the epitome of the word scum and is lower than an ameba.
Toyota salesman love to come to forums and bad mouth other products. Now, they are in panic mode. Their Vios sure to die. Their Vios is the main earner for UMW.
Altis is a waste of money. Nobody bothers with that car. The only version worth it is the RM139k version with VSC. But then again, people know, better to get an Accord, a real proper D class for the same price of an Altis. So, Altis is close to death.
Camry also, is trash. Most loyal Camry buyers all migrated to Honda Accord after UMW played their backsides (main bontot) by taking out the VSC just to reap more profits at the expense of Toyota buyers lives and limbs. Most Toyota fans can never forget this. How UMW stoop so low to take out the VSC just to untung lebih.
Eventhough VSC is back in the Camry, people can never forget what UMW did especially knowing that VSC is standard in all Camry cars all over the world.
So, getting back to the topic, the Toyota salesman is bored to death. Sales have gone down the drain. They sit in the office going online to spread rumours and condemning other cars.
What is fact is this. For 2014, Toyota is going down the drain. Honda will far overtake Toyota in sales.
So to all the Toyota salesman, if you are bored to death becaus eof zero sales, please, don’t be the scum you are and come to Honda articles spreading rumours and nonsense.
actually honda should worry more on Nissan. in 2012, Honda leaves Nissan in 5th place sales volume by 40,000 units.
in 2013, Nissan sales grew to reduce the deficit by only 6,000 units.
but yes, Honda finally admitting to use Toyota’s formula by selling an entry level City by looking at Nissan’s Almera success.
and with a hybrid in the line up, Honda can finally has a chance of being Vios killer after a decade of being second.
ur rite…..taken into consideration prius c priced at RM 150k, seems like city hybrid comes with at least 6 digit price tag
toyoi, you try real hard to defame others
I’d be intrigued to see how much it will cost and at what spec. Considering that it will be tax free since it is a CKD Hybrid. And no CVT… This sounds nice.
Don’t forget the new jazz hybrid has just been recalled.. So it doesn’t mean DCT is less problematic compare to CVT..
Dual clutch vs the eCVT planetary gear… Of course Honda’s have better throttle response, but the Toyota has no problem at all (never heard of transmission problem).
What would you go for? performance vs reliability?
Wow the news keeps getting better for Honda. Except for one thing , it uses an advance I-DCD system, a dual clutch transmission. This can be both good and bad news. Bad is obviously Honda is having trouble with it dual-clutch motor at the moment. Good is that this means that the new I-DCD is capable if being CKD in a Malaysian plant. This opens the possibility of the Accord hybrid or new Jazz hybrid being manufectured in Malaysia, given that Honda Malaysia has previously confirm two new CKD hybrids this year. we also know the Vezel is coming at year end so maybe that’s the other hybrid being CKD.
This is definitely an exciting year for Honda and mind you, the same power train in the fit hybrid does the century sprint in under 8 sec.
i have my doubts about DCT, but the more choices for us consumers, the merrier!
Nissan almera S-hybrid better!
now, this is the real deal, the REAL CITY! i can imagine it sells like hot cakes, beating prius c and probably the vios too..(of course the price must b rite first)
It would be safe to assume that the new Jazz Hybrid with i-DCD will be introduced as well for reasons of economy. Good news all around, then!
WTF..just pre order vios last week!!!!.. i should cancel it..
With all the negative comments on Vios, you just pre-order? Wahh…
wait.. so will this be more affordable then the standard petrol units? Btw, when is the Vezzel coming?
Dual clutch..?? nuooooooo!!
Another good way to scam ahbeng aunty uncle for extra RM20k.
Good news, of course many people happy to hear this new h city hybrid. my expectation FC will be 30 km/l’, also this may be due to h insight will end the production, and as replacement model.
honda MY should offer i-DTEC too..
No point and not likely in the near future, not until our diesel specification is upgraded to Euro 4 or better. A diesel powered car supposed to be eco-friendly low carbon emission, yet the visual sight of the exhaust by diesel powered car in Malaysia shows otherwise. Besides that, the maintenance of the car is a headache for the owner too due to fouling by low quality fuel.
Another 10k down for Elantra trade in
Korean car price drop > 60% less than a year, then another RM10k drop. So the one year old elantra is RM30k++. Deal, where is your yard?
Omg… Why was i being so patriotic and bought a P1… Now i feel more pathetic because i bought the hi-spec one…
Hopefully Honda sorted out it’s DCT issues before the car goes on sales here in Malaysia..
without reliability problem DCT is the best transmission out there… DCT on a hybrid means better fuel economy too..
I prefer performance > reliability !!!!
Attention to Honda Malaysia – If below RM100K – I will TAKE ONE ! Kakakakaka….
Dual clutch again?? Good luck to the future City Hybrid owners!!
hope the price is right….then malaysia will (ok la, just look like) a country whose drivers seem to care about the environment
can someone tell me this DCT is a wet or dry system ?
It looks like city has beaten vios and almeera in terms of good looks and packages. Hopefully the sales will spring up too.Looking forward for city hybrid…
wan sam kl
Vios? Tin can! Lower quality. I bought it. Regret very much. Funny noise on the right side…assembly problem for sure. Still not rectified. :(
Altis also tin can! I am driving it. Also regret very much. After going thru heavy downpour engine/gearbox feels ‘lame’.
Toyota now is like Nokia in the past. The Toyota models brought in by UMW shortchange innocent uncle and aunties. All those innocent folks think they bought a reliable brand with great models. Unfortunately, the real truth is that there are now better (and much safer!) cars available out there from other manufacturers today.
Any news about when the City Hybrid will be launched? Saw some post on Q3 this year but we are almost entering Q4… :(
Can we trust Yoichiro-san that it will be launched this year? ;)
Great move! Now I’m looking forward for UMW to put in dual-vvti + s-cvt in their next gen or next facelifted vios. That would b a golden combination.
When it going to reach? Any news from Honda Manufacturing plant?
