Both Caterham and Marussia to skip US and Brazil

marussia

It looks like Caterham won’t be the only team that won’t be racing at the US Grand Prix next week – Marussia will also skip the race, according to F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone yesterday in a report by Reuters.

In addition, Marussia will also most probably skip the Brazil race as well, since Formula One Management’s arranged transportation for teams are supposed to take them directly from the US race to the Brazil race.

This means there will only be nine teams with 18 cars for the two races. We wonder if this is what the grid will look like for next year’s season.

Marussia has actually scored points when Bianchi finished 9th in Monaco (he physically finished 8th but incurred a timed penalty after the race that dropped him to 9th). It was both Marussia and Bianchi’s only points (thus far) in F1.

By finishing with points, teams get more share of the television rights money from FOM compared to a team with 0 points. FOM handles the commercial side of F1, compared to FIA that handles the technical/regulations side. That is the purpose of F1 teams. The higher you finish in the constructors championship, the bigger share of the F1 TV rights you will get. And the TV rights money is a huge amount of money. Mercedes is probably laughing all the way to the Bank after winning the constructors title this year.

F1 is a marketing and/or branding tool. Not just racing.

Many years ago…Formula One are consider the highest and fastest pinnacle motor sport apart from WRC, Le Mans, Nascar, MotoGP however everything has changed tremendously that I witnessed the tragic and sour grape of geopolitical issues has bring down the oldest sport in the world. I guess “Marie Balestre era” has ignited the worst scenarios in F1 circus if they failed to revive back race of glory.
