First look at the new Mitsubishi Triton Quest 4X2 MT

triton quest oto 01

You would have known by now that the new Mitsubishi Triton is in Malaysia, with specs and estimated pricing released, along with the opening of order books. The variant featured in the teaser roadshow is the top-spec Triton Adventure, naturally.

Entry-level variants are meant to be hidden away from public view and are rarely shown in promo materials, so here’s a rare pre-launch view of the base Triton Quest model, courtesy of an ad on our sister classifieds site oto.my. A Triton Lite replacement with a new name, the Quest is only available as a low-rider double-cab 4X2 manual, with an estimated price of RM71,000 OTR with insurance.

Not much in terms of luxuries, but the Quest does get basic necessities such as a CD player with AUX/USB, power windows, power adjustable wing mirrors, manual air con, ABS, EBD and dual-airbags. The 2.5L turbodiesel isn’t the VGT unit powering the top models, but a basic eight-valve SOHC IDI engine with 89 PS and 196 Nm, if the Triton Lite’s motor is carried over.

As expected, the Quest comes with reflector headlamps without DRLs, no fog lamps, a black grille, 15-inch rims and no rear bumper – things unnecessary in the trade. For the urban cowboy, check out the Triton Adventure below. The new Triton will be officially launched next month.

  • Price increased again + Grandpa Design..
(old triton RM65k for lo-ride, new triton quest RM71k? facepalm)

really suitable for existing Triton owners to upgrade, they are becoming older. They shall appreciate this Grandpa design.

    • Remember it was Mitsubishi that first introduced automatic gearbox for a pickup (Storm L200). That time nobody could care less about it relegating pickup truck as manual-only workhorse.

This time perhaps Mitsubishi should sell automatic version of entry-level pickups, the first to do so. Why would anything cheapest variant must be manual?

Lots of buyers will appreciate it to have cheaper pickup with convenience of automatic gearbox like a sedan car but able to carry more things.

ETACS is not traction control. It’s the name they gave the electronics systems governing the car’s alarm and lighting behavior, like locking the car up 30 seconds after you unlock the car without opening any of the doors or turning off the headlights if you stop the engine with the headlights on.

Their term for traction control is ASC (Active Stability Control) or ASTC (Active Stability and Traction Control).

  • I wouldnt be surpirse if this Mitsubishi Triton is getting some sales.

The hideous RM71k Cockcroach styled Jazz. alone also can sell at about 1200 units/month.

    • All Mitsubishi engines 2.5 Liter diesel name the same code 4D56. Like lancers evolution 1-9 all 4G63. But the engine has major changes.

Having ABS, EBD and dual airbags is already an improvement over the Lite Turbo. Now that the standard engine for the new Triton is the 2.5 VGT, why don’t equip the Quest with the non-VGT 2.5 instead? I am sure owners will more appreciate 136ps/314Nm compared to the 89ps/196Nm. And i believe there will be huge demand for the Quest if it comes with an autobox.

    • If they equip with that 4D56 DiD, the cost probably near toRm80K with airbags, ABS & EBD. So the marketing issue. In fact many users love the fast low ride too just like Thailand. Maybe they should bring in as well low ride with VGT
