Greetings from the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2015! We’re reporting from the spanking new Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in BSD City near Jakarta.
Aren’t we at IIMS? Well, there are two motor shows happening in Jakarta now and GIIAS is the sole show supported by Gaikindo, Indonesia’s version of the Malaysian Automobile Association (MAA). Gaikindo has thrown its weight behind this “new” show, so naturally, this is where the action is.
We kick off our GIIAS show coverage with this striking little car. Yes, it’s a Toyota Yaris Convertible! The Yaris’ five door hatch body has had its roof chopped off to become the Yaris Legian. While the distinctive rear lamps remain, the face is new, with triple “eyes” bracketed by LED DRLs. TRD parts are all over the car, down to the multi-spoke big wheels.
If you look closely, there are little “TAM” logos around the car, and this is a mark of the maker. Toyota Astra Motor is the Indonesian arm of TMC and it is the locals who have come up with this concept car. Not likely to make production, we think (it’s very hot here!) but interesting nonetheless.
