LRT and Monorail fares have been reviewed, and the new prices will be announced this month, The Star reports.
“We have now got the approval from the Cabinet and SPAD has written to the Prime Minister to ensure it is properly endorsed,” said Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar.
Speaking to reporters at the Awan Besar LRT station today, he said that Prasarana will announce the new fares before October 31, when the first phase of the Ampang Line LRT extension project is expected to be opened to the public.
However, Syed Hamid did not give any hints on how much higher the fares might be. Prasarana, which operates the Klang Valley’s LRT and Monorail lines, had previously asked the Government to raise fares.
Regarding the Ampang Line LRT extension, the first phase will see four of the 11 new stations – Awan Besar, Alam Sutera, Muhibbah and Kinrara BK5 – opened to the public by the end of this month. The rest of the line is expected to be completed next year, and will terminate at the Putra Heights station. There, commuters will be able to switch to trains on the Kelana Jaya Line.

Yeaaahh.. finally some increase from our depreciated ringgit…
Yeah when increase fare or price immediate implanted… when reduce fare or price Govt says wait until 2018 or 2020 or 2200… just wait yea… BN lousy cronies only care for their own monthly salary… Rakyat dead not their problem.
Yaaaaah, finally some increase to suck the poor rakyat money and put into his pocket.
Undilah BN ajibkor. hidup BN. haha.
better drive your car to office rather than take LRT. LRT now worst and costly.
Before election promised no increase on Toll, LRT, petrol etc….but after election all things such as ‘Seluar Dalam’ price increase. That shows our government not perform to manage our Country.
Why take the lrt when even filling up petrol for your kawasaki 650cc sportsbike is cheaper? The least that the government could do is to just maintain the lrt ticket prices. The government shouldn’t make profit from helping the people!
Subsidies and cronyism in business distort the economy. Time to start paying real world prices. Unfortunately people here are not paid real world salaries.
