Rapid KL to investigate double-decker bus collision at Jalan Pudu underpass; deviation from original route

Rapid KL are investigating into an incident whereby a double-decker bus collided with the underpass of Jalan Pudu at 6.45pm on Sunday, October 25, 2015. According to The Sun, the 4.2 metre-tall Alexander Dennis Enviro500 diesel double-decker bus was serving the U40 route between Terminal Kajang to Terminal Jalan Silang, and was on its way to the city centre when the incident happened.

Rapid Bus CEO Zulkifli Mohd Yusoff told the daily a probe will be carried out to determine the reason and other possibilities that made the driver deviate from the original daily route for the bus.

During the incident, no one sustained any injuries although the bus was damaged at the front-end of the upper level coach. An operation officer stationed at the Rapid KL bus depot at Cheras Selatan said that it was a bizarre incident.

“We are puzzled on why the driver had attempted to go through the underpass as Rapid KL bus captains have been trained for months in advance before we allow them to man the double-decker bus service,” said the officer, who wished to remain anonymous.

Rapid KL began rolling out its fleet of 40 double-decker buses in September, each fitted 83 seats and enough standing room for 25 people. Costing RM1.4 million each, the double-deckers are disabled-friendly and are capable of carrying 50 more people than RapidKL’s current single-decker buses.

Malaysia no laws lah. So many big bus drivers take short cuts that are too sempit for the busses to go through. Even the winding road in Kenny hills, so sharp bends also, big huge busses take the route as short cuts. How many time near major accidents.

Even in city and in PJ you can see bus drivers going through the SS residential house roads as short cuts.

They are not scared, they get caught, just give PDRM duit kopi and they are off. For bus drivers, even RM10 also can selesai because polis prihatin and understand the bus driver dont earn much

I think one of the reasons why Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) should be implemented everywhere – to prevent buses from sharing roads with cars.

great, that’s how we wasted RM1.4million in just 2 month time in operation.

in SG they use their bus for 17 years before scrap it, let’s see would our bus survive for 10 years.

I know that underpass, and above it is the most steepest traffic light junction/flyover hybrid in KL, which is the appropriate route for tall vehicles. I would understand it’s susah for MT vehicles, but the bus driver simply wants to curi tulang. Not the first incident. Haha.

This is what you get when transport companies pay their drivers by number of trips they make. They’ll drive, dangerously, take shortcuts and become abusive to slow moving passengers. Its the whole system that stinks and more so the companies are run by people who don’t care about anything else but make as much profit as possible. Third world mentality still very much there.

    • Uhh no. RapidKL is different, they have fixed salary with OT maybe. The trips are scheduled and fixed for that route. Daily its the same cycle. Thats why often they take breaks between routes.

Waste of money. Running Double Decker bus in a country with sub-standard specs of bridge height and tunnels..

    • It’s not about the bridge height. This is a case of a bus driver taking a shortcut. Many of these fellas are fond of taking shortcuts using flyovers or underpasses and skipping bus stops at those ramps above or below to save time. They usually end up missing passengers who happen to be waiting at those stops.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

knew this kind of thing will soon happen.
already said is a bad idea to have double decker bus with the driving skills n mentality of malaysian bus drivers

  • Ease the traffic congestion by offering better public transport services and reducing vehicles on the road. Then busses prolly less inclined to find reason to curi tulang.
