Mercedes A-Class Motorsport Edition due in Malaysia

Mercedes-Benz A-Class FL Motorsport Edition Petronas 2

At the launch of the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class in Malaysia earlier today, Mark Raine, vice president of sales and marketing, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia, revealed that the special A-Class Motorsport Edition will soon become available here.

No specific timeline for the special edition model’s arrival was mentioned, but Raine did comment to say that it would be in very limited numbers only, and that more would be revealed later. As such, this would add a fifth variant to the existing four versions of the A-Class — A 180 Urban Line, A 200 AMG Line, A 250 Sport and AMG A 45 – available locally.

As previously reported, the Motorsport Edition package is available as an option for all regular engined variants of the A-Class from the A 200 and A 200 d onwards, except for the AMG A 45.

The Motorsport Edition bits include a rear aerofoil, 19-inch multi-spoke AMG light-alloy Design 787 wheels and a designo Mountain Grey magno exterior shade, with petrol green elements providing highlights – the colour can be found adorning the front and rear bumper trim, the flanges of the wheels, the rear aerofoil and on the side mirror covers.

Inside, the air vent surrounds are also finished in petrol green, and the shade also provides contrast in the form of topstitching. The seats, which are upholstered in black leather and Dinamica microfibre feature an unmissable petrol green decorative runner strip, and the colour also makes its way on as edge trim on the seat belts.

Knowing that the Motorsport Edition route would add a fair bit of cost to the model it adorns — 4,850 to 6,300 euros (RM21,800 to RM28,300), as reported — would you still be interested in having one? Tell us in the comments section below.

Man this example comes with three pedals! That’s the way! No nonsensical dual clutch.

Good lord, that’s terrible! All show, no go. Don’t owners feel a bit… pathetic, trying to show off with something that really isn’t there? If the car had 400 hp, then ok, it looks fine. If it has 150, then no. Might as well wear a fake Rolex.

    What happened to understatement…
