The 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack has been officially unveiled at the New York Auto Show. Based on the Golf SportWagen, the US production version of the Golf Alltrack will officially go on sale in the fall of 2016.
Outside, the Alltrack gets cladding for key body pieces, unique bumpers, wheel wells and side sill to provide off-road protection. The front gets a pair of foglight and a unique honeycomb grille. The S and SE trims ride on 17-inch aluminium alloy wheels, while the SEL trim gets a set of 18-inch wheels along with silver detailing for the roof rails, matte mirror caps and diffuser.
On the inside, the layout is similar to the SportWagen but with an upscale feel. It comes with leatherette seating surfaces, while a unique brown leatherette can be specified along with aluminium pedal covers, door sills with Alltrack branding and ambient lighting.
A 6.5-inch capacitive colour touchscreen with proximity sensor, rearview camera and VW Car-Net App Connect connectivity come as standard. Meanwhile, the Drive Mode selector includes an “Off-Road Mode,” which adds hill descent control and optimised traction control.
Furthermore, the Off-Road HMI will display a compass, steering angle and altitude when driving off the beaten path. Boot capacity is rated at 860 litres with the 60:40 folding rear seats up, and 1,883 litres with the seats folded down.
Power-wise, the Alltrack possesses a turbocharged EA888 1.8 litre TSI four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 170 hp and 269 Nm of torque. At launch, the engine will be paired with a six-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission, while a six-speed manual will be available later on. It also comes with 4Motion all-wheel drive, which utilises the latest generation Haldex-5 coupling.
Safety-wise, the Alltrack comes factory-fitted with six airbags. Standard Safety-tech include electronic stability control, automatic post-collision braking system and an intelligent crash response system.
Available driver assistance systems include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning and autonomous emergency braking (front assist), lane assist, and front and rear park distance control with park assist.
