Ford F-150 Special Service Vehicle for law enforcement

2016 F-150 Special Service Vehicle package

Dearborn is introducing a new Ford F-150 Special Service Vehicle to cater to both fleet and government customers. Available in XL trim in both SuperCrew and SuperCab configurations, it’s built especially for law enforcement needs and is part of the Special Service Vehicle line-up.

As law enforcement and fleet work can get “messy,” the F150 comes with easy-to-clean vinyl flooring, which replaces the standard carpeting. At the back, the rear seat has been swapped out for a vinyl bench as well for fast and easy cleanup.

Other than that, Ford has replaced the stock alternator with a high-output 240-amp unit to accommodate for long idle times. The standard 40/20/40 seats have been taken out in exchange for 40/black/40 seats. The centre section of said seat has been deleted to allow more space for customisation.

“Many officers need the extra space F-150 Special Service Vehicle offers. They can load the cargo box with equipment and still fit five people inside. Its utility is unmatched,” said Stephen Tyler, Ford police marketing manager.

Power-wise, customers can opt to have either a 4×4 or 4×2 drivetrain, coupled with a 5.0 litre V8 engine or a high-torque 3.5 litre EcoBoost mill instead. According to Ford, law enforcement accounts for a large portion of Special Service Vehicle purchases, which was why the F-150 has been added to the range of vehicles.

“We offer a whole family of police vehicles,” said Arie Groeneveld, Ford chief programme engineer for police vehicles. These include the Expedition Special Service Vehicle, Special Service Police Sedan, Transit Prisoner Transport Vehicle, Police Interceptor Sedan and Utility.

Our entire fleet need to be replaced with Ford Police Interceptors. These are really purpose-built protection capable of taking in high impact crash, coupled with potent engine. And ballistic proof.

Not the usual Mitsubishi converted Proton Inspira. These are men and women looking after our security.
